NOW WATCHING

Blu-ray? HOT DAMN!!!!!

Film was great BTW. The only scene that I disliked was the one with the conveyor belt & roller. I think he held his head down for much too long... But the rest was just amazing.  :ok:

9.5/10.

A few nights ago I watched Falling Down. It had the same effect Get Shorty had on me: I'm not usually crazy about Michael Douglas' acting (though IMO he was good in The Game) but in this one, he nailed the sardonic, over the top, soon-to-be-madman white collar. A good piece of drama.

Thanks to the Irons for "suggesting" this movie. I first listened to it like 15 years ago, but things were so different back then  (and I was 9)

Black Swan DVD Screener is out. Not the best quality, but good enough.

I thought the film was great and I loved the grace and elegance brought about by the ballet backdrop. It's amazing how Aronofsky effectively contrasts the beautiful with the grotesque throughout the film and everything is shot and directed excellently.
I especially liked that shot where Nina and her mom are in the room talking and you can see them on the opposite sides of the three-way mirror.

Not quite the mindfuck I was expecting since I thought it was going to be really crazy, but that's probably my fault. It was tense and gripping and walks the line between gritty reality and surreal fantasy quite well. There are similarities to Perfect Blue in the way that it blurs reality and I thought there was a Persona vibe going on as well. In terms of acting, Portman practically inhabits the role of Nina with some awesomely fearless acting. The rest of the cast was solid, but this is clearly a Natalie Portman showcase... maybe to a fault since some of the other characters end up seeming flat compared to Nina's character. Winona Ryder in particular is almost useless.

Oh... also:
Mila Kunnilingus

I haven't seen it yet, but if there's Mila in it (which equals to goddess Venus herself to me) I will watch it.

:P

^ LOL yeah go see it! :D

On that note, Aronofsky's next film is going to be the sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine... which is titled "The Wolverine" also starring Hugh Jackman.

I sure hope Aronofsky elevates the superhero genre to Nolan-like proportions instead of the genre dragging him down...

I'd agree, though I liked Empire much more than Jedi, so perhaps that is part of it as well.  I think I like the first parody the best though, the whole moving the couch through the Death Star gag put that one over the top for me.

It's going to sound pretty stupid when I explain it, but it's one of my favorite shows.
Basically the main character is a slacker who's father was a cop, and who taught him to be hyper observant in the hopes that he would follow in his footsteps, but he went the opposite path and became a complete slacker, and occasionally used his skills to call in tips.  when he returned to Santa Barbara he was accused of being in on a crime because of his tip, and he pretended to be psychic to get out of going to jail.  He then set up a Psychic business with his friend, a pharmauetical salesman.

It's really good.

So, I wanted to watch a Christmas film to get myself in festive mood. I only had one which is remotely Christmas related, if only because it features the nativity scene. So I watched it.

Not that this should come as a surprise to anyone.
