Nightwish

Weird title. But will be nice to hear music. But Nightwish are close to becoming Rhapsody (of fire) when it comes to album sequensing. Start with a quick track, nr 2 and 3 the hits, 4 is a mystical one…Sway will probably be a nice ballad, but Spidersilk will probably be a great banger!

Wow. The title and the artwork (and the song titles, to a degree) feel like coming from a completely different band, to be honest, but I don't really mind - it already looks better than the last two albums, at least. I'm getting actually excited.

I like the name and cover art is great. And song titles are interesting.
Endless Forms Most Beautiful along Once is my favorite Nightwish albums.

Very cool things Tuomas said about the album:
1_ Yesterwynde is a made up word by Troy. It stands for that sense of realization you can feel by looking at the past and understanding it's all connected.
2_Tuomas was inspired by those old videos from late '800/first '900 colorized, I've seen a lot of those on youtube and I could never guess they could become an inspiration for a Nightwish album.
3_ Children of Ata is the story of a group of children survived alone on a desert island in 1965.
4_The Antikythera song is inspired obvously by the greek mechanism (the first "computer") but had nothing to do with Indiana Jones (luckly). Tuomas read about it on a science magazine.
5_ Perfume of the Timeless is nearly 10 minutes long. And it's the first single. They're crazy.
6_ It's not the last album by Nightwish.

Cool interview, thanks. I was surprised they made a new multi album deal.

They still need to do the acoustic album and the orchestral concert begore they end

I want more of their earlier style on this album or just more guitar/parts-oriented again (and I kind of feel like it could be different), but looking at the weird title, some of the songs titles, 10-minutes long single(?) and the cover (which is intriguing), I'm not sure. It's all Nightwish though. I'm not excited, but the album's themes sound interesting.

I don't expect anything that'd slap like Elvenpath or Sacrament of Wilderness, for I'd surely be sorely disappointed, I'm also worried that Tuomas will remain in that obnoxiously preachy mindset, but at least it's all semingly coming rather from a left field, so I can't help but feel somewhat intrigued.

The 1st single is very typical and not bad, but at the same time it didn't grab me much. The nice verses and the (effective) chorus has that classic Nightwish vibe. The pre-chorus works for the atmosphere. This could have been a song from the Anette era. The heavy/trash-y part with the ''oh-oh'' vocals is a cool idea and reminds me of their early albums. A needed change of pace. The intro is atmospheric and picture-esque, but a little too long for what's already been achieved (kind of like the outro, but not quite), the main melodic sounds like the one for ''Noise'' and there's no solo/s again or prominent melody(?). Why. Overall, a kind of a solid start, compared to the previous whole album, but far cry from their best. Maybe the album will be like H:II:N (no heavy use of guitar, more keyboards, although this song has riffs) with some twists and an old-school sound here and there.

Just watched the new video. I don't like nor the song nor the video. The melodies are really oppressive and they are all the same on every album since 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful'. Nothing new. No evolution of the NW's sound. The 'Once' album is far and I miss the Tarja era a lot.

Listened the new single.

Sounds like Nightwish! I like Nightwish.

As of yet, I don't have particularly strong feelings for either way, but I enjoyed it anyway. Then again, I'm one of those who absolutely love Human :||: Nature too. ;)

Song is okay. Heavy interlude was cool. Still can’t help but feel that the band’s sound hasn’t changed much over their last four or five albums, though; still just an orchestra with a band buried underneath it.

The video is exactly what I expected; another biology lesson with enough pretentiousness to fill an ocean. I’m trying to keep an open mind regarding this album, but if it’s anything like their last abomination, it won’t be in my rotation for long.

I don't understand how anyone in Nightwish expects to make money without touring? Like, I understand that they got burnt out and have "personal reasons" for not touring...but recording and releasing albums is worth literally negative dollars.
The Beatles quit touring and became a studio band. I'm sure these guys have other revenue streams like producing or teaching. Plus, they've been successful enough this far where do they really need the money?

I’ve also used The Beatles as a comparison to the situation as well, but back in 1967, the market was far better for a band to make money off of albums than it is today. I agree overall though, they’re all(?) millionaires and if they can afford to not tour and just focus on their personal lives and studio work, then good for them. I hope it leads to some good music.

Only Tuomas can live off royalties in Nightwish.

Tuomas and Troy will probably be more active with Auri soon, I remember Tuomas talked about touring some European castles with this project in 2024 (this was during covid era, so probably have been pushed forward to next year). Tuomas might also do some soundtrack music, and Troy get to do lots of session work.

Floor have her own project and tour with that, Kai and Jukka have Wintersun, and they are probably also about to start touring again next year.

Emppu…probably recording songs and play some gigs with his rock band, and go camping and fishing:bigsmile:

The 2nd single, ''The Day Of...'' is a weird song. It starts almost like a glam metal song, has an Anette era vibe, but it's a typical song for the last 2 albums. I don't like the chorus vocals (and the latter vocals short part). The melodic riff/keys in the middle is great and is classic Nightwish. The highlight. No solo again? Cool bridge and nice verses, but that's it.

So, I've finally properly sat down and listened to both of the released songs.

Perfume - as I've unfortunately played the song on PC at work, I couldn't shake off the feeling the intro felt like a YouTube ad that started before the song, you know Hero Wars or Royal Match or something.
I know the background vocals in the subdued section are supposed to bring Our Decades to mind, but I just couldn't help but think of HammerFall.
But that's nitpicking and me being caustic, I admit that I mostly like it.

Then the verse began and

has an Anette era vibe

I suppose both songs do, if you told me Perfume was a DPP/Imaginaerum outtake that's been dusted off and repurposed for the Floor era, I'd believe you. The chorus sounds slightly more like a current-era NW song, but I still feel Anette era through and through. It's probably not 100% fresh melodically, but I'm lazy to think about where I heard the elements before, but purely going on gut feeling, the first impression is that they sound the freshest in the past 13 years, even if it is a step back.
(although the orchestration is a tad overblown and kinda drowns the song, but still)
The outro is nice, but overdone. ESPECIALLY with the intro

The Day Of...
Wow. Kudos for something this unusual to be a second single. Am I the only one who hears the Karelot vibes? (or maybe it's just the children choirs and the vaguely gothic atmosphere).
EDIT: no, fuck, it's because the chorus goes "We are the ill-starred kids of your junkyard" - it obviously reminds you of "We are the last to walk the Earth // And watch the passing ages slowly sail", especially with the children there.

Again, Anette-era vibe, both with the weirdness and the atmosphere. After the first listen, I can't help it, I'm liking this a lot.

The lyrics to the second one are... not great, not terrible. But yeah, if you want to preach in metal, be a doomer, so good job there, Tuomas :ok:
Perfume's lyrics... well, sound more in the vein of the last two albums, but tolerable.
Both are a tad overwritten, but I can live with this.

Also, what's with all the fucking "WE ARE" choruses?

I am very pleasantly surprised so far and I'm actually looking forward to this album. I must give it a few more spins, but I feel like I could start loving Nightwish again?

Do you have a source for this?
I don't think Marko had another job when he was in the band, same for Emppu.

I think I won't like the new record. I didn't appreciate the first single and hate this second one. So, for me, it won't be a great record from NW. I miss Tarja and Anette a lot.
