Nicko McBrain

It's basically in the statement about his retirement from touring (that it's the touring, not the playing). Bruce also stated that Nicko almost ended up in a hospital multiple times durinf 2024. And it wasn't at the end of shows, as he always came out and greeted the audience. So, my reasonable guess is that it was the travelling, more specifically flying.

Would also explain why he didn't attend the London show.
He flew to London earlier this year to do the Legacy of the Royals snare drum release + signing at Drum One, though

He didn't perform, though. I get the feeling it's the combination that's the issue - air travel and having to perform multiple times each week. Not to mention the usual travel woes with sleep and such which surely didn't help. Totally different when you get to sleep in your own bed and go perform a single show in the general area, and then go back home and recuperate.

He said just before the encore at the last show he was sick of travelling the world.

New respect for the guy he’s an awesome front man too, I would have never guessed.
I'd say not just mentally sick, but simply can't do it physically.

I think if Maiden toured like Stones do, with a lot of space between the dates, Nicko would still be drumming for them. But Steve and Bruce don't want that.

Yeah, there was a second night in Sydney, Australia, where it was probably — personally, for me. I thought it was a really bad performance. And I remember saying to Bruce, walking back to the dressing room, or I think we did a runner, actually, we were walking back to the cars. I said, 'Oh, mate.' I said, 'I'm really struggling up there.' And he said, 'You looked like you were struggling, Nick.
Fear of the Dark was really bad that night. Maybe more songs too.

It really sucks what happened to Nicko. I hope he is feeling better.

It can't have been easy being on tour last year with the struggles he had.
