Nicko McBrain retires

I definitely noticed Bruce's completely inhumane potency in action CSIT earlier. I'm serious. How the fuck? He's had head and neck cancer and is well in his 60s, but he sure doesn't fucking sound like it.

Davey's been on fire all tour and H sounded like he was sticking as close to his original solo as he could while giving himself some room to improvise. So damn cool. I sincerely hope they all remember the harsh lessons that life has taught this band, because evidently when they do, they outperform themselves and sound 20 years younger.

There's a reason why in my mind I've always cited Maiden as the one band comprised entirely of top-shelf musicians. Because they fucking are, as long as they remember to be.

Thank you for everything, Nicko.

Yes! I couldn't add anything about Nicko that hasn't already been posted.
...
The pressure on his replacement is going to be terrible.

Absolutely. In my humble opinion, it is somewhat contradictory how on the one hand the big shoes that need to be filled are emphasised, but on the other hand Joe Lazurus often is mentioned as the favourite.
When disappointed fans say that he would never be in Iron Maiden if he was any Joe Miller, he couldn't even dismiss them as stupid haters because that is true.
You could only hope that he is a mentally very strong guy.
That's one of the reasons why I want someone more recognised. Someone who knows what he has already achieved and won't be so easily thrown off course by the criticism that surely will to come his way.

There's going to be pressure on his replacement, but there's people who are still mad that they replaced Paul with Bruce. A lot of people don't even like Jan!

I think the possibility of having a healthy dose of setlist activity will probably help with the animosity they might face. But two things become clear: they did not change the setlist so it wasn't so taxing on Nicko, having to practice like 20 songs instead of 15, and it's also extremely likely that Alexander was included as a last hurrah from Nicko to the fans. The most requested song gets a proper live version featuring the lineup that recorded it, probably for the first and last time.

I was there and cried for almost all the show! Best show I've ever seen, for logical and emotional reasons. All the members were on fire, the overall performance was top-notch! Cried like a baby in CSIT, when Bruce did the first speech, in Hell on Earth and, of course, at the end of the show. Davey giving a hug to Nicko hit me really hard. What an emotional and special night! What a time to be a fan of this band! Thank you, Nicko! You will always be THE Maiden drummer, the one who definied the groove of our favorite band and gave, alongside with Steve and Davey, the stability and musical strenght that has been the trademark of this band for more than four decades. We all love you!
