Yeah, Chemical Wedding is great.  Tyranny a bit less so, but if you dig Bruce's vocals you ought to love those albums.

It took me a while to fully appreciate Bruce's solo stuff.  Especially Chemical Wedding.  The music is SO heavy compared to the vocals that it sounded like Halford singing for Six Feet Under.  Now I love them; great albums!

I can barely make a list of my favorite Dickinson solo songs.  It's pretty vast.

One of my favs -- and one I'd recommend looking up -- is OMEGA.  The vocals are simply superb and the melody is great.  Book Of Thel is tremendous too.  That could be a Maiden tune.  Too damn many to list.   :)

I have a friend who's just now getting into Maiden and I sent him some solo Dickinson and his reaction to Thel was that it quickly became one of his all-time favorite metal tunes....ever.  I was floored.  I mean, I love it...but it really worked for him.  That kinda made my day.

Now I keep thinking of stupidly unimportant stuff.  Like what the inside band member pics will look like.

Brave New World- goofy "looking up at the sky", holy crap they look old pics

Dance of Death- cool artistic with half naked chicks, cool band pic

AMOLAD- studio stuff

Agreed on the above tunes, along with the title track to Chemical Wedding and I also love Taking the Queen.  The lyrics of the latter remind of Revelations...for no particular reason that I can figure out.

Maybe the band members in space suits?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys  :) Definitely will check them out.

Have fun brother...!  And report back with your impressions over time.  It'll grow on you I suspect.  Like you I didn't listen to him for years and years.  Now I feel like I missed out on a lot.  Was great catching up.  Enjoy.

Darkside of Aquarius, Jerusalem, Kill Devil Hill, Navigate the Seas of the Sun, Back from the Edge and Cyclops. Go. Now.

Haha on that right now, listening to Omega and just finished Chemical Wedding. Great stuff so far.

Book of Thel, Gates of Urizen, Silver Wings, Accident of Birth, Starchildren, Darkside of Aquarius. Off the top of my head; that list changes in 3…2..1...

The thing that's great about Bruce's solo albums, at least the metal ones, is that they sort of sound like Maiden because of the voice and harmonies, yet for the most part Maiden would never do songs like this.  Good stuff.

One of the issues I have with the solo albums is that a lot of the instrumentation is a little pedestrian.  Roy Z plays the hell of guitar, and of course so does H on the albums he's on, but everyone else is kinda basic, just following the beat.

The rhythm section does lack a bit in character that's for sure.

Silver Wings is amazing! I'm currently on Book of Thel as I post this. Just amazing vocalization! Bruce really sounds top-notch in these songs! Finished Omega as well, probably the best vocals yet.

I have yet to hear that song, as I don't have his greatest hits compilation.  I still need that and his 47 hour anthology DVD.

Who does that eerie voice at the end of the Book of Thel? Reminds me of the voice in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, during the slow middle section.

I think it's just Bruce mumbling something.  Also, I forget which song, but one of the songs starts with him reading from the Yellow Pages.  At least, that's what the biography said.
