It took me a while to fully appreciate Bruce's solo stuff. Especially Chemical Wedding. The music is SO heavy compared to the vocals that it sounded like Halford singing for Six Feet Under. Now I love them; great albums!

Listening to King in Crimson, I must say, it sounds great! Definitely a lot heavier than usual for Bruce, as chaos said.

Finished Crimson, and in all honesty, it's a grower for me. Didn't quite do it for me during my first listen, but still an excellent track

I can barely make a list of my favorite Dickinson solo songs. It's pretty vast.
One of my favs -- and one I'd recommend looking up -- is OMEGA. The vocals are simply superb and the melody is great. Book Of Thel is tremendous too. That could be a Maiden tune. Too damn many to list.
I have a friend who's just now getting into Maiden and I sent him some solo Dickinson and his reaction to Thel was that it quickly became one of his all-time favorite metal tunes....ever. I was floored. I mean, I love it...but it really worked for him. That kinda made my day.

Agreed on the above tunes, along with the title track to Chemical Wedding and I also love Taking the Queen. The lyrics of the latter remind of Revelations...for no particular reason that I can figure out.

One of the issues I have with the solo albums is that a lot of the instrumentation is a little pedestrian. Roy Z plays the hell of guitar, and of course so does H on the albums he's on, but everyone else is kinda basic, just following the beat.

I have yet to hear that song, as I don't have his greatest hits compilation. I still need that and his 47 hour anthology DVD.

Who does that eerie voice at the end of the Book of Thel? Reminds me of the voice in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, during the slow middle section.

I think it's just Bruce mumbling something. Also, I forget which song, but one of the songs starts with him reading from the Yellow Pages. At least, that's what the biography said.
