Metallica

I count this album as being among the classic Metallica albums. Still heavy as fuck but with more songwriting focus and hiring Bob Rock who had done an amazing job on Mötley Crüe's Dr.Feelgood album was a smart move.

I really like the Black Album. It's a pretty single driven album and features some of the most well-known Metallica tracks, but I really like the album cuts on there. Stuff like 'Of Wolf and Man', 'The God That Failed', "Through the Never' and 'My Friend of Misery'. Very solid songs.

Don't care about it being commercial or not, still don't like it. Enter Sandman is awesome though.

The "quality" that Metallica have released after Black came out can be a good reason to "suddenly" realize that it wasn't that bad after all.

I love the Black Album, I love Load and Reload. Black album is Rock solid from start to finish, strong writing, strong performances, strong production. Load and ReLoad have more heart and soul than anything the band has done since Kill 'Em All.

Well, if it takes even worse albums to make you appreciate it then it probably wasn't very good in the first place. :D

Load and Reload took years for me to appreciate. I like them now, not at the time. In fact, during the Stomp 442 tour for Anthrax, I met Scott Ian and when I asked his opinion of the two he said "This is a joke right? They're going to release the real album soon yes?"

St. Anger is what brought me back to Metallica. Sure it did not sound like metal, but it had the return to speed and aggression! Death Magnetic is perfection. Too bad it was eight YEARS ago...

That's weird for him to say. I haven't listened to it in some time, but isn't Stomp 442 pretty similar to what Metallica was doing in the 90s?

Death Magnetic is a pretty good album. Not great, but definitely better than anything since AJFA.

Not at all. Load and Reload were not near as heavy as Stomp was. The songs I saw them play live (Random Acts of Senseless Violence, Fueled, and In a Zone) were much heavier than the rock Metallica was putting out at the time.

We've talked about this here before, Load/ReLoad would be a pretty decent album if they got rid of the fillers and released it as a single album.

I'd be interested to see everyone's take on a single album from Load/Reload. Say...10 songs? This might have been done too in this thread but can't be bothered browsing all the pages :D

Also next Saturday, the 20th August. Metallica will stream their show from Minneapolis and apparently they've made a mixtape of music they listen too that you can listen to on Pandora if you're in the states...

Load took me a long time to appreciate, but I loved ReLoad pretty much instantly, going as far as having it in my Top 4, along with RTL, AJFA and MOP.

I like Load/Reload and I like St. Anger (title track is very good IMO). There's good stuff on Death Magnetic too (Judas Kiss).

St. Anger is all around bad imo. Laughably bad. Terrible drum sound, muddy guitars, terrible whiny vocals, ultra-repetitive songwriting and bad lyrics.

Exact opposite for me. Load (years after it released when I stopped hating it) I took to quick. Reload, well...
