Ancient Mariner
I count this album as being among the classic Metallica albums. Still heavy as fuck but with more songwriting focus and hiring Bob Rock who had done an amazing job on Mötley Crüe's Dr.Feelgood album was a smart move.
Of course. Look what happened afterwards. However, through the years, I appreciate it now.
Don't know what you mean by that. I was just saying my musical tastes have broadened.Of course. Look what happened afterwards.
Well, if it takes even worse albums to make you appreciate it then it probably wasn't very good in the first place. The "quality" that Metallica have released after Black came out can be a good reason to "suddenly" realize that it wasn't that bad after all.
Not at all. Load and Reload were not near as heavy as Stomp was. The songs I saw them play live (Random Acts of Senseless Violence, Fueled, and In a Zone) were much heavier than the rock Metallica was putting out at the time. That's weird for him to say. I haven't listened to it in some time, but isn't Stomp 442 pretty similar to what Metallica was doing in the 90s?
I like Load/Reload and I like St. Anger (title track is very good IMO). There's good stuff on Death Magnetic too (Judas Kiss).
Exact opposite for me. Load (years after it released when I stopped hating it) I took to quick. Reload, well...Load took me a long time to appreciate, but I loved ReLoad pretty much instantly, going as far as having it in my Top 4, along with RTL, AJFA and MOP.
1. Ain't My BitchI'd be interested to see everyone's take on a single album from Load/Reload. Say...10 songs? This might have been done too in this thread but can't be bothered browsing all the pages
Also next Saturday, the 20th August. Metallica will stream their show from Minneapolis and apparently they've made a mixtape of music they listen too that you can listen to on Pandora if you're in the states...
