Other than the solo and the opening, I think it's far less inspired than the rest of the tracks.

It's about the only track that's on (almost) the same level of energy as the previous album
Just listen to those drums.... mmm nice :edmetal:

I mean, it's a good song, but Wasted Years is perfect, Sea of Madness is awesome, Heaven Can Wait is really fun, TLOTLDR is emotional, SIASL is a great adventure jam, Deja Vu is just... I love it, and Alexander the Great is a fucking masterpiece.

CSiT is definitely great, but it's easily overshadowed by the greatness of the rest of the record.

Sign of the Cross vs. Caught Somewhere In Time
Lord of the Flies vs. Wasted Years
Man On the Edge
vs. Sea of Madness
Fortunes of War vs. Heaven Can Wait
Look For the Truth vs. Reach Out
The Aftermath vs. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner
Judgement of Heaven
vs. Stranger In a Strange Land
Blood On the World's Hands vs. Deja-Vu
The Edge of Darkness
vs. That Girl
2 AM vs. Juanita
The Unbeliever vs. Alexander the Great

Great round, a few re-listens required.
The first was tough but the ferocity of the instrumental section of CSiT shaded it.
I really dig the latter parts of The Aftermath but the clunky verses drag it down for me.
I love The Unbeliever but on closer inspection, its not quite as good as Alexander. Although I would argue that The Unbeliever is the more 'interesting ' of the two.

6-5 The X Factor. The album I rank higher takes it.

CSIT has great solos and I like the pace, but the strained chorus knocks it down for me.
And I’ll never understand why it never gets whacked for repetition when it is more repetitive than a lot of songs that do.

Somewhere In Time was the beginning of repetitive choruses becoming really noticeable in Maiden imo.

This is my exact feelings about CSIT. The former is the reason I can't in good conscience give it more than an 8/10; the latter is one of the things that drives me nuts about Maiden fans complaining about repetition.

Sometimes repetition works. Sometimes it doesn't. SSoaSS works. FTGGOG not so much. CSIT is actually fine for me. Good chorus.

CSiT is the song that basically got me into Maiden. Love the entirety of it. Nothing about the chorus has ever bothered me and, to be honest, repetitive choruses rarely bother me. A few jarring ones from the Blaze era come to my mind, but other than that they're fine. Even Brave New World - I think it's a great, very effective chorus.

Same as that, the idea of repetition never entered my head until I read about it on this forum. To me it was just a thing, a part of a song, no problem. None of the songs that I rank as Maidens worst suffer from repetition while some of my favourites do. A simple four word chorus is much easier to sing back than a Steve Harris verse. Never will I tire of repeating a chorus back to them boys.
For the 15th time, I'm Runnin Free, yeah!!!!!!!

Somewhere in Time knocks off the X Factor by an 8-3 score.

Up next, the iconic Number of the Beast versus the legendary Seventh Son of a Seventh Son :edmetal:

Wow. I rate 7th Son lower than a lot of people, but I never expected that result.
Not even counting the bonus tracks, a decisive win for Beast. The tracking just lined up against 7th Son.

"Invaders" vs "Moonchild"
"Children of the Damned" vs "Infinite Dreams"
"The Prisoner" vs "Can I Play With Madness"
"22 Acacia Avenue" vs "The Evil That Men Do"
"Prowler '88" vs "Massacre"
"The Number of the Beast" vs "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"
"Run to the Hills" vs "The Prophecy"
"Gangland" vs "The Clairvoyant"
"Total Eclipse" vs "Black Bart Blues"
"Charlotte the Harlot '88" vs "Sheriff of Huddersfield"
"Hallowed Be Thy Name" vs "Only the Good Die Young"

9-2 for Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. The sixth and last pairings were extremely painful.

Only voted for RTTH, Total Eclipse, and Hallowed from TNOTB, the rest are all SSOASS.

Though I will say that this was a tough round at times. Children of the Damned and Infinite Dreams are nearly equal on my list.
