This is an interesting head-to-head. If we were just voting albums vs. album then 'Powerslave' would win hands down as the five walkover match-ups indicate. However, the current score is only 6-4 to 'Powerslave' with one match-up currently tied up. If 'Chains of Misery' wins that one then 'Powerslave' would only win 6-5 which is quite surprising considering that 'Fear of the Dark' is widely considered to be one of Iron Maiden's weakest albums. 'Fear of the Dark' is significantly boosted by the inclusion of b-sides to make up the numbers for 'Powerslave' though. Without those it would currently be 6-2 in favour of 'Powerslave' with all six of 'Powerslave's wins being walkovers.
Yeah, the albums that contain more songs are definitely at an advantage as more often than not, an album track is going to win against a b-side.

The reunion albums should fare quite nicely, when all is said and done.

Aces High vs Be Quick or Be Dead (I think BQOBD is one of the best of FOTD but against Aces High...)
2 Minutes to Midnight vs From Here To Eternity
Losfer Words vs Afraid to Shoot Strangers
Flash of the Blade vs Fear Is The Key
The Duellists vs Childhood's End
Back In The Village vs Wasting Love
Powerslave vs The Fugitive (The Fugitive is not very popular but I kinda like it apart from the chorus but again, against Powerslave it has no chance of winning)
King of Twilight vs Chains of Misery (Just had a quick listen of both and I had better memories of King of Twilight...now it just sounds like a very average cover)
Rainbow's Gold vs Judas Be My Guide
Mission From 'Arry vs Weekend Warrior
Rime of the Ancient Mariner vs Fear of the Dark (I love FOTD - yeah I admit it:D -but pairing it up with ROTAM, no need for explanation really!)

6-5 for Powerslave, but FOTD may say thanks to the b-sides!

There's no chance that 'Fear of the Dark' can win another match-up.

23-2
25-0
24-1
21-4
25-0
24-1

They think it's all over...

This result does show an unfair amount of bias towards 80s Maiden though. It seems to me that some fans only have love for this era of the band instead of spreading their love equally across all eras.

Tough choices (= I love both, but feelings, historical importance or "common sense" - i.e a tendency to sheepish voting- tip the balance):
Aces High vs Be Quick or Be Dead
Losfer Words vs Afraid to Shoot Strangers
Rime of the Ancient Mariner vs Fear of the Dark ("ROTAM" is great but "FOTD" is the "big" song corresponding to the days when I discovered the band, it's sentimental - hey, it's music after all ;) )

Easier choices (= I have got a distinct preference, although I don't dislike the one which loses):
2 Minutes to Midnight vs From Here To Eternity
Flash of the Blade vs Fear Is The Key
The Duellists
vs Childhood's End
Back In The Village vs Wasting Love

Easy choices (=either the winner is very good or the loser is average to bad or insignificant):
Powerslave vs The Fugitive
King of Twilight vs Chains of Misery
Rainbow's Gold vs Judas Be My Guide
Mission From 'Arry vs Weekend Warrior

The last matchup WAS tough, don't get me wrong. But it's just a little bit hilarious that Rime just steamrolled Fear like that.

I prefer 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' by a long way. The studio version of 'Fear of the Dark' is so boring compared to its live versions (of which there are too many!) and feels too slow.

Yeah, the albums that contain more songs are definitely at an advantage as more often than not, an album track is going to win against a b-side.

I wonder if Fear of the Dark was eight songs long it would be held in higher esteem, or if Powerslave had three more filler tracks if it would be less revered.

Perhaps, but 'Piece of Mind' is my favourite album despite having a couple of filler tracks. That album's strength is from having several of the band's all-time greatest songs.

This is really an example of quantity being an advantage here. Only two Powerslave album songs lost their matches. The rest were b-sides. The fact that two of those b sides (including Mission From Arry) came in fairly close also says a lot about the strength of FOTD.

All the same, it doesn't bode well for Powerslave down the line - the Power Four are two too few to earn a victory.

There is certainly a bias in favor of albums with 10 or more actual songs. Case in point, there is really no battle Weekend Warrior should win, but yet here it is defeating a backstage argument. I am also a bit surprised how poorly King of Twilight fared against Chains of Misery as well, but I get the Iron Maiden > not Maiden argument in its favor.

Well, I did vote for "Women In Uniform" over something ("Weekend Warrior", I think) in the very first round, and also "Cross-Eyed Mary" over "The Mercenary". I voted for "Chains of Misery" because I really truly like it, not because it's a Maiden song while "King of Twilight" is not.
