Why does anyone need chatGPT in the first place? If you have a question, there are search engines. If you need to write something, you have a brain and a pen or a keyboard. Am I just obtuse? $20 a month is a rip off for shit you don’t need anyway.

I needed it to generate charts and analyse data that would take me much time should I were doing it by myself. The free version wouldn't do, hell even with $20/month I had considerable limitations. And it wasn't that good either, I had to double check and correct it all the time. So I'm happy there's something I can use for free.

Search engines are becoming increasingly useless. Google search is basically just an ad aggregator at this point. My trusted go-to search engine for some ten years or more, DuckDuckGo, is quickly developing in that direction too. I've actually started to use ChatGPT for simple queries I would have used a search engine for earlier, and then once I have information, I use trusted sources to verify it.

A simple example: I was looking for the dimensions of certain paper formats a while ago, and all I got was links for print shops. I asked ChatGPT and it just gave me the dimensions; then I entered those dimensions in search engines and got the result confirmed.

Is this the same bot that didn't know who Paul Day is?

With this in mind, I find chatbots to be theoretically more useful than search engines. To me it's a similar progression to what we've seen with certain websites being more commonly used in apps rather than in browser. If I need to quickly reference something, want a comprehensive answer to a particular question, a chatbot might be more useful than a search engine. The problem is that most chatbots I have interacted with don't interpret questions very well, make frequent errors, and clearly the developers have ulterior motives that lead to information being censored.

AI is a tool. Whoever understands that faster than others and makes use of it successfully will be in advantage against competition.
I found ChatGPT to be not mature enough for that price. $200/month for the pro version? Get the fuck out. Even the $20/month was overkill for what it was and I wouldn't mind for more if it were more capable. Or that I were to spend less time training it.
For all that and more I was very happy for DeepSeek's breakthrough. Great way to start the Year of the Snake :)

Something a bit more lighthearted:

Trivium are playing their second album, Ascendancy, in its entirety for the 20th anniversary on their current tour. Their show features a bit of a Maiden homage, in a sense; similar to Eddie, they bring out the zombie from the album cover as a huge inflatable.

It's wacky and kinda goofy but also fun, just the way I like it :D

Mods @LooseCannon, @Perun, @Mosh may I sugest something. If it's interesting, You could create a thread with a poll in which we could vote and discuss Best Mascots in Metal. My English is far from ideal to do that, also now I would not include all existing mascots, the list should be comprehensive. From the top of my head:
Iron Maiden
Motorhead
Megadeth
Dio
Helloween
Iced Earth
Anthrax?
etc.

Edit: maybe some top three contest.

Are you thinking of an actual game?
I don't know if it's enough material mascots for "the game". I suggested only a thread with a poll but maybe game would be more interesting. Voting, anticipation, reveal moment, etc. But list of the mascots should be presented as a starting condition of the game, some of us may not know some more obscure mascots. Hmm, maybe game would be more interesting. (A game like, number your favorite albums of a specific band)

Any member can start polls and we have a subforum for polls that are outside organized "forum games."

If you want to start a forum game yourself you are welcome to do so, we usually try to gauge interest by posting first in this thread: https://forum.maidenfans.com/threads/games-discussion-submissions-welcome.22968/

I don't mind more games in the forum games subforum, you don't see many because it is often a lot of work and it's only worth doing it if you can get a sizable amount of participants. We also have a lot of games that end up getting abandoned, so if you decide to do one make sure you're committed to finishing it.

Huh, now thinking about it, it looks like i wanted to have others do all the work :D Esp. if it's a game, it's quite a few work to do. I think, i will not start nor game, nor poll. Because of the language barrier and because - i think - my list of metal mascots would be not comprehensive.

Honestly I think a single poll with all of the mascots allowing people to vote for their favorite is probably the best way to go.

I moved from local files to streaming my music a number of years ago. Spotify has been my go to since 2017 but their desktop application is garbage. I mean really cant believe how bad it is and they've essentially never fixed it. Slow, mostly unresponsive, and very limited ways to organize playlists. I really miss using iTunes on my computer, they use to have a "smart playlist" feature that was a lot of fun to mess around with.

I use Apple Music as it allows you to upload your own music to the cloud. Spotify is leagues away from Apple in their recommendation playlists but is unfortunately IP dependent, so you would need VPN to channel you to the country of origin whereas Apple Music (and Apple in general) is credit card dependent whichever country you have your account registered, it feeds from there.

Never got into streaming music, it doesn't align with my listening habits. I rarely listen to individual songs or playlists. I like to listen to entire albums. When I get hooked to a new (to me) band I usually go through most of their discography, so I just do a deep dive and purchase their albums as I go through them.

If I want to listen to a song not on my phone while I'm traveling I can fire up spotify or look it up on youtube or something, but I don't have to rely entirely on wifi or having mobile access to the internet to listen to the majority of my music. I get the convenience, but it never clicked with me.
