Well, it takes the fun out of it, but whatever:

Some ten years ago, we had an insanely large influx of bots that kept opening spam threads. I'm not exaggerating by saying they were upwards of 100 or 200 per day. For some reason, a lot of them linked to websites selling uggs, which apparently was the style at the time. So in forum lore, we called this period the "Ugg Wars", and this was the reason why we had to introduce drastic measures for new members registering, including multiple level captchas and the requirement for a minimum 10 posts before you can open a new thread.

Since we jokingly called it "Ugg Wars", I jokingly implied that uggs are a PTSD trigger to a veteran of this war [the picture I posted being a meme referring to PTSD, see here for an explanation of its origins], which again I jokingly declare myself a "veteran" of because I deleted hundreds of threads per day, which we jokingly compared to fighting against enemies (the "enemies" being the bots, the "fighting" being the act of deleting the threads).

There is still the occasional bot that gets through, but only one @Spambot we actually keep around.

Hope that explains my post.

We'll march in memorial parades together.

I sincerely hope all future forum members will have to prove their worth by playing DOOM:

5 years ago today, the world was first informed by the PRC government of a COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan.

And today, well, let's not think about it.

5 years ago today, the world was first informed by the PRC government of a COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan.

20 January 2020 was the day I came back to China, after being out since mid December. After double checking with photos and documents, I am quite sure to have read /heard about a virus in China around January 5.

Yes, I read about the virus for the first time in December - although the Chinese government didn't adress the world about it until Jan 20th.

There was much discontent against the government as of it didn’t control it earlier, which was in my opinion one of the main reasons if not the main reason why they doubled down and controlled it so over the top later.

In the start of Covid frenzy pharmacies stopped selling anti-fevers so you that you couldn’t escape the blocks with thermometers on the streets.
At that time, peak panic, I had to also relocate from another province and by driving. The day I was about to hit the road, I raised fever, I was that nervous!!
Thankfully it wasn’t detected but because I was foreigner I was asked to drive from different roads than the rest, sometimes unchartered on the Maps App and in the middle of the night! I got lost multiple times, I was sleepy as hell but couldn’t stop.
It was like a war zone, a living nightmare magnified by the fact that I couldn’t read or understand anything. And nobody liked foreign faces that time, like if we had bring it there.

I don't, just described one experience. It's a perfectly sovereign country unlike ours. There's nothing to complain when you are a guest, you just leave if you don't like it.
