Good cover, but the original already is quite "symphonic" for a rather simple song. It has multiple tracks in harmony etc., so if I was to make a symphonic cover I'd probably extend the instrumental section (they did a little, I would have added more) and compose another voice during the verses as well.

But the cover was well executed.

And yes, The Duellists has good potential for a symphonic cover. And imagine Rime ...

Fuck, I thought this guy was bad enough. What's worse is that he won the primary in Colorado, where I live.

I've got to go to the other side of London tonight for three days. Another course I need to attend.

Still, it's nice to think that the company is willing to invest the money in me. This course is not cheap!

Always good to know that your employer think you're wirth something to them :)

Myself, I'm going to the "Introduction day for new employees" tomorrow - five months after I joined ABB. The September, October and December ones were filled up, the one in November collided with the leave I had to prepare for my PhD defense, and in January it was not held.

And on Wednesday, I'm going to give a presentation about floating LNG production technology. Should be fun (at least for me :D)

Funnily enough, this course I'm on was, in a roundabout way, prompted by the stupidity of companies like Sony. All companies that store a lot of credit/debit card data must be PCI compliant. And as I work for a retail company that stores shed loads, we have had to buy a really expensive piece of software to keep an eye on what is happening on our network and we are keeping up with the compliance. This course I'm doing is to teach me the administration side of this bit of kit.

I'm in a hotel now for the next few days running on a really shitty free WIFI. I mean, 0.5mb download speed.

Is "Restless Oblivion" by Anathema one of the greatest ever recorded tracks?

The whole album (The Silent Enigma) is just so bloody good. I f'ing love it.

From the Whitney Houston thread:

So, is the music industry killing of its stars for a quick and big buck? Discuss...

This sounds like an excellent premise for a movie. The main character is a former superstar who's been sliding into obscurity and ridicule due to substance abuse and a series of scandals. She's finally trying to get her life back together and is secretly working on a comeback album when there's an attempt on her life. A race through the netherworld of the entertainment industry begins as she unravels a conspiracy by shady music executives to murder her and cash in on re-issues and second-rate archive material. As the plot grows more complex, we begin to suspect that it might all be a fantasy brought on by drug-induced paranoia. In an ambiguous ending, she dies of unexplained causes and her new demos are marketed as the deeply personal final cuts of a once great artist.

That would be a great premise actually, is it a coke-fueled dream or the evil emperor, er, music CEO... Shadow, you MUST make this movie! I MUST know!

As for work, I got a little certificate yesterday congratulating me that I've been at that hell hole for a year. I told my team leader I was going to frame it and hang it next to my bachelor's degree so mamma could be proud... I'm glad she found it funny.

Nothing like a signed document to remind you how long you have been stuck somewhere....

In other news, does anyone check out WOOT.com? For all the War History Buffs out there, today's deal is a 36 disc dvd set for $20 plus shipping ($5). I thought of a lot of people on here that I thought would dig that!
