I do think that France should get more credit than what people are giving them for getting were they were today. Yes, the lost twice in the group stages against NZ (expected) and Tonga (shockingly unexpected) but they beat two decent teams in the knock-out stages (top two teams in Europe) and gave NZ a real scare in the final. What you need to remember is that France beating NZ in the world cup, or a test match, is not new (2007 and 1999) so had they won, I would not have been surprised. NZ are a team that can walk any match if they are not put under any pressure. Get under their skin, and they quite often panic. That is why it has taken them 24 years to regain the trophy. Notice how they cautiously saw out the last 5 minutes or so by keeping the ball through many phases and really slowed it down? They were looking to draw the penalty against the French who were getting pretty frustrated by this.

A guy at work is typical of a lot of people - they get all starry-eyed about NZ (like some do with Brazil in football). He told me he was going to bet on NZ winning with a 15 point start to France (i.e. NZ would have had to beat France by more than 15 for him to collect his winnings). I told him not to do it - but I'm not sure if he took my advice. He did exactly the same in 2007 and was going to bet on SA beating England with England getting a 12 point start. Again, I told him not to. I was right then and I was right today. Rugby World Cup finals have almost always been close (i.e. a score difference between winning and loosing).

Yes, that was not my favourite part of the match.

Nor mine. Wales did a similar thing in the semi's against France for a different reason. They were looking for that penalty to win the game. France did not yield. It's a common tactic that a lot of teams use.

I love watching the n00bs open up topics we debated to death 6 years ago and have at it. I don't need to share my opinion, and I can just read theirs. Simply fantastic.

I don't love being up at 5:30 AM and having to bounce from bed at 10:00 AM. Fuck. That's gonna suck.

Liiiiiiiiiike?

Meh, count yourself lucky... I've not had actual sleep for a few days now. By the time I start to feel remotely tired morning has rolled round. Maybe I'll get to sleep this afternoon a little finally!! My title isnt Nocturnal for nothing!

Waiting for Midsomer Murders by having to watch Coronation Street is not much fun.

What a cunning way to extend the thread ;p

Hi, I assume you say King as in "King Crimson"... in which case swing and Nopmiss buddy  :innocent:
Nope. I'm going to call you King, and you are going to accept it. I have my reasons.

Good news: I've bought an apartment in Oslo, and only 2 km from my workplace  :yey: Not taking over until December 1st, though, but I see the end of my train commuter existence ... But, shock and horror, for those 53 m2 plus garage I have to pay more than NOK 2 Million ... that translates to between € 250K and € 300K, and that is not small money. Fortunately the interest rates are low - for now.

Exactly, for now. Fortunately for me, my mortgage is small and I have a fairly decent wage. So when they do hike up, I'm not going to suffer as much as others!

I too think I can manage an interest rate well above the current. I have done my calculations (not using Michael Essien's calculator) and with the current interest I should be able to save some money every month. The job I'm in pays above average too. Still, buying an apartment for the first time is a big step, and I'm not used to dealing with money in the numbers of millions.

I see I missed out on the RWC 2011 talk. Anyway I loved that tournament, watched nearly all the games. My dad went over to NZ for the first half of the tournament. Shame Aussies played like crap.

NZ deserved to win for the last 4 years and through the tournament, but France deserved to win on the day. And how bullshit is it that the french got fined for them walking up to the haka?

Judas Priest last Sunday was amazing!!! It was general admission, so got there early and ended up right at the rail! All three performances were awesome, even Thin Lizzy was great! Got 4 guitar picks, 2 from the new guy, 1 from Glen Tipton and 1 from the bass player for Black Label. Great great concert.  :shred: :shred: :shred:
