Anyone got any useful tips to get rid of malware?

I got something last Monday and I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware like I've done in the past and it picks up some trojan files and destroys them. However I'm still getting random internet pages popping up to stupid dating sites or poker sites which obviously isn't normal. Plus Just-In-Time Debugging keeps popping up on my desktop which has never happened before (although apparently it's a legit thing to do with some Windows program Visual Studios. I have a more refined version of it (Windows Script Editor) which I never use). I've also ran CCleaner, Ad-Aware and SUPERAntiSoftware. Yesterday they picked up some more Trojan files but nothing more is there today.

Another thing that I've had since the virus came is that Opera keeps randomly not being my selected program as such. So I have to reclick it to scroll or type anything. Which is very irritating.

Also for some reason I can't use System Restore, so that's out of the equation. So any other software I can use to help me or any other tips? I've been looking at some of the proper forums for Malware removal but they have pretty complicated steps that I don't fancy using until a last resort.

Did you try restoring it? It does sound like a hardware failure, though.
I can't get my Mac to recognize it, so I can't access it to restore.

On malware, if the antivirus you have installed doesn't want to remove it, it might be easier to remove the HDD, hook it up to a computer that has a good AV already loaded and updated, then install the infected HDD as a secondary drive, then scan it.  If you don't boot from the infected drive you should be ok.  Many times, it seems, if you are infected, the virus/malware won't allow you to install a new antivirus on your computer, so you need to use an outside source.  I use Malwarebytes and AVG free 9.0, those seem to work pretty well.

I probably should've mentioned that I use a laptop :P

I'll give AVG a go though. Cheers!

If your lappy uses a SATA drive, it can still work, tho if its the older ATA/IDE style, its more of a pain-- Radio Shack sells HDD enclosures that you can use USB to access with.

@Per.  Har har.  ;)

iPods are solid mp3 players most of the time, Perun.

Does the Mac see it in System Profiler, Wasted?

Nope, doesn't see it anywhere.  I was wondering for a while if it was a bad battery... it keeps showing that 'low bat' screen.  but Apple support said that if it kept showing that 'sad ipod' screen it was hardware.

Eh, such is life.  I could send it in, and if its the batt, its $59, or if its hardware, $129.... its a 30G video, so I'm tempted to fix it.

That might be a better idea-- it was a Christmas present; i get a little sentimental when it doesn't make sense.

We all do. You can keep the old one and make it a project - get parts on ebay for cheap as free and make an iFrankenpod.

^The first one cracked me up HARD.

Man, Powerwolf are awesome.
Who would've thought a band with such a lame name could rock so hard?
And they sound like Maiden too!

Glad to see some appreciation for Powerwolf. They are easily the cheesiest band I know, but they still bloody rock.

^I agree.

Wasted, don't but a classic!
I have one, and it sucks. Then again, it is my first Ipod, and I REALLY hate Itunes.
I only bought it because of the space, although I only use about a third of the 80 gig.
I should've bought a cheaper, better player that can play freaking WMV videos, with 'only' 60 gig.
Who uses mp4? I mean really.

h.264 is the future of media, like it or not. mpeg-4 isn't that bad. Just get a free converter.

Also, .wmv is the WORST video format out there.
It's Bruce Dickinson morning at LC's work, and I am just getting slammed by how heavy AOB is. I had forgotten.
