If you have "hope" for something, it means there is a reason for you thinking it might happen. "Hope" is not the right word for speculation or wishful thinking. You can say "I want them to," or "it would be great if," but saying, "I hope they will" without qualifying it is wrong use of the word.

Roman 8:24-25:
"For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it."
