Me as well. I mean, I'd love to hear Stranger in a Strange Land or Deja-Vu, but otherwise I could care less.
 
SIT is the best sounding IM album production-wise. Songwriting wise it's maybe not as consistently good as eg. SSOASS which is for me the best IM album as a whole, does not have hits as NOTB and Powerslave had, but SIT's sound and production just demolish any other album in that category.

the band don't choose the "hits" so to speak and if they brought over more than Heaven Can Wait and Wasted Years into the next few tours, it'd be different. The songs they dropped on the tour supporting the album were SIT songs which baffled me. Steve said Loneliness sounded great in rehearsals but he didn't feel it fit the set list when they finally played it. Sea of Madness was axed from the tour right after arriving in the states. Powerslave had only 2 "hits" so to speak with 2 other causally played songs... Same with SSOASS... Somewhere in Time is the most well produced album and sadly, the over production could not be captured live which is the main reason I believe the album has long been ignored. Every cover band that covers SIT songs, they sound awful unless played on the GK 250s. The band could do it but they have chosen not to for unknown reasons. Caught Somewhere in Time having the biggest live flaw with the riff before the versus.... live it was not great but the rest of the song was.... They have 3 guitars now to fix that issue.

They have 3 guitars, but they also have 60 years. Bruce and Nicko could potentialy combust playing that song night after night. They barely managed Aces High in 2014 (that year's version was shit) at a bit slower tempo. Some high tempo numbers just don't work with Maiden anymore. Aces High and CSIT are such songs, that can not be played a bit slower, because they would sound shit (as did Aces High in 2014). They need to make smart choices with the set in that regard.

Regarding the SIT guitar sound, it's quite simple how to get a close approximation, but most of the cover bands don't think about it. The first thing you need to do is have a delay (around 500ms) with 3-4 repeats on at all times. The mix for rythm sound must be around 20% wet. For the solos, you raise the wetness of the signal to about 35 %. The second important (possibly most important) aspect of the sound is using a chorus at all times. Almost every digital chorus pedal has a sweet spot with the distortion of whatever amp you use, you just need to find it. This is usually the thing that people forget when playing SIT songs, the chorus. Than you can use almost any amp (preferrably with solid state power amp) and drive a 4x12 cabinet with it.

Voila, there is your good approximation of SIT sound.
 
I still don’t believe that Maiden would need to change their live sound to successfully perform SIT songs. If they’re good songs and the band is still technically capable of performing them, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

Based on bootlegs, very little of the album suffered by not having that studio polish.
 
+ considering they want to play mostly big indoor venues -- where acoustics are usually way too reverb-y already -- delay, chorus (+even more reverb??) will muddy the sound even more. + considering their live-sound wasn't always that great recently.
 
Yea it would sound awful imo. Plus I’m assuming the way Maiden runs things they would have to change their sound for the entire gig.

Besides, Maiden has never been about replicating their studio sound live (if anything it’s the other way around). They’re not Dream Theater.

Delay is not reverb. Completely different things. H and Dave already use a lot of delays live, but almost no reverb. What lacks in current sound is the chorus (for the SIT songs). Also Janick is the last guy, who would use SIT-correct setup, as he hates effects.

But speaking about what songs suffered by not having studio polish, Wasted Years didn't suffer at all, because it's a simple rocker. On the other hand HCW suffered the most, because of fast verses for Bruce and the subtle little things that Adrian plays in the chorus, or at the end of oh-oh-oh's, that haven't sounded right since they stopped using guitar synth and GK's live.

I think the main reason is because Bruce is still a little butt hurt about that period.

Also the songs left the set early on because Adrian left, and that album was strongly associated with him.

BUT it’s truely scandalous that SIASL wasn’t a concert staple over the years irrespective of politics.
 
Honestly, I rather dislike this song: generic opening riff, boring mid-tempo. The only thing I really love is the bass part. I'd rather hear Sea of Madness again. This one I really love from start to finish.

Can't believe that so many are ignoring the brilliance of one of their finest albums to date, Somewhere In Time. I have always loved that one and it's in my top3 albums of my life.
If only they could atleast play Caught Somewhere In Time or Infinite Dreams, as both were featured as regulars in their album tours, but for some strange reason not picked up again for history-tours.
I know that the guys have more age, but surely they still could be performed these days. Infinite Dreams was even rehearsed for 2013 tour but dropped for some strange reason..

No ones acting like an expert at all just sharing opinions. I mean how scandalous that some people don’t revere somewhere in time, what an utter crime!

I don’t think it’s one of maidens best. I enjoy it a lot but there are far better Maiden albums than somewhere in time. Just my opinion of course, I’m no expert :)
 
Would be great if CSiT came back. Would be perfect as a show opener or first encore song. And I don’t buy that Bruce can’t sing it or that it’s too hard to replicate the album’s guitar sounds.

It’s a great song with some of Dave and Adrian’s best solos ever. Play it!
