I'm not sure what the appeal of Fallen Angel is.
It has never really done anything for me.

Knowing you're a Thin Lizzy fan, this surprises me a little bit. The Thin Lizzy influence is probably at it's largest here, and I think they really Maidenize that Lizzy style/sound.

That aside, I just think it's a cool rocker. Wish it was played regularly instead of Mercenary (a similar, but lesser song IMO).

A 'meh' song because some things were done before, all too literally. I find the verses and the solos pretty OK, but even those parts are not top class. Bridges and choruses are really less good, with that too familiar sounding lead guitar (Wasted Years / The Clansman). I think that The Mercenary sounds in no way like The Fallen Angel. A very different rhythm.

Despite the discussion of the previous round, now I am voting for both Futureal & Clansman since I prefer Lightning Strikes Twice, the highlight of this album. You never know if the standings could get closer. Anyway, I think the song is worth praising, and defending:

Lightning Strikes Twice has Blaze's best performance of Virtual XI, maybe even of his whole career. The way he sings that intro, and especially how he does ...It takes me back to my childhood again .. is mindblowing.

Live he couldn't do the chorus, but he nails it pretty well here. Really cool how you can hear with how much spirit Blaze sings those fast couplets -> especially these ends of the sentences. E.g.:

.. in the park
... ...
.. flash lights dark

Naturally, the music helps too. We're used to fine intros when Dave co-writes songs and this is no exception. What a strong melody that lead guitar is. I have read some bad reviews when it comes to this album's sound but when I hear this song, I must protest: the guitar sound is very warm and also fat. Very rich and raw sounding at the same time as well. It sure helps making this song pretty heavy. On top of that we get its excellent melodic side, and that's why this is one of the finer gems of the Blaze period, which I will cherish forever.

I agree with Foro on the guitars of Virtual. The sound is nice, but I prefer the vocal production of TXF to VXI. Since we've reached BNW, it's also safe to say that the clean guitar sound (clean opposed to overdriven) is the best they've ever had, in my opinion. Some of us don't like the album's production. I didn't like it at first either, sounded muddy, but I love it now, could just be my taste. The drums are different too, you can really hear Nicko's snare blasting.

When Two Worlds Collide has got to be one of the most underrated Maiden songs.

Mosh forgot Blood Brothers?

Evil, Fortunes of War, Mercenary, Dream of Mirrors, Fallen Angel, Out of the Silent Planet, Thin Line

Looks like it. If you want to vote for it, just say so and I'll count it
