Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

From a fairly recently interview with Adrian (this is the last question):

- It’s been 5 years since your last studio album, Book Of Souls. Have you been using the downtime in touring to start writing new material?

AS:
What we have lined up for next year is a tour but we’ll have to see if that can go ahead. We are always writing new songs though but a new album is still some way away. :(

I still think (and hope) that the album will be released in 2021 (probably September 2021). If the 3rd leg of LOTB tour is cancelled,.. - maybe even earlier.

But people here were sure that album is already done...

To be fair, "some way away" is a meaningless distinction in regards to time. He can't reveal what's planned and doesn't want people to read too much into his words. It could mean literally anything and nothing has changed.

And of course I was the idiot for not thinking so.

He doesn't say they haven't written and recorded a new album, he is saying it won't be released yet!

He actually didn't answer the question properly. In any case they didn't use the downtime, they did it before last years tour.

Exactly. We should also not forget that he could have let something slip during another interview and might have got a bollocking from Rod!

Even saying it's some way away yet I'd take with a pinch of salt. I'm not saying it will be released soon, but when Maiden are coy about their plans it means they have plans. If they had nothing done then there'd be nothing to hide and he'd just have said "we haven't even started on a new record yet".

I think the few interviews, questions and answers on the matter are very cleverly given, not too much information and not denying.
When it's time then it will be told to us.

But he does say that they are always writing new songs....not that the songs for a new album has already been written and that it's finished ;)

Exactly, this might be about the next album or if Adrian has some sort of things prepared for the future (after the album he did record with Richie Kotzen). We don't know too much for realm, Im willing to bet that the extensive detective work of happenings in Paris last year are true, then they actually are already preparing material for the later use and albums. CODIV-19 has been horrible, but some musicians really have made the use of this time very useful, not everyone has been resting and chilling out as some of them have really used time to write stuff and finish albums.

People connected "studio work with Shirley" to a done album. Typical fandom stuff, wishful thinking.

And if it doesn't happen, they blame the band. Cf the Great, Alexander.

Yeah well people gonna have expectations. I might not approve of aggressive expectations. On the other hand Maiden's studio output is snail paced compared to what they once did. Disregard the 80s, from X Factor to AMOLAD they've released albums every ~2.5-3 years, from AMOLAD to TBOS that will be approaching 5 years per release. If that pace continues it's safe to say that IM17 has a huge possibility of being the last Maiden studio record, at least in "classic" sense of full physical release and worldwide support tour. The fans are subconsciously itching for this album to happen ASAP because if it drags on, more and more chance it's the last one.

According to a source I trust, the album was completed with Kevin Shirley in Paris last year and, I believe, would have been released at the end of the LOTB 2020 tour. Things have been postponed for obvious reasons, but I doubt they would have spent a significant amount of money on making an album that is never going to see the light of day.

It will be released, when the time is right. Right? I have no fear for the current situation but I hope that it's ready for us.
Just today I (as usual) listening and watching plenty of live-videos and audios from different tours, I miss Iron Maiden and hope to see them live again as soon as possible. I hope there will be new album and tour to support it.
