Typical title, 9 songs? I'm interested to see the track lengths. And how about The Shamans Trance? That sounds like a cool song. Now I'm super excited for this album.  :yey:

New Dream Theater album

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER have set "A Dramatic Turn Of Events" as the title of their new album, due on September 13 via Roadrunner Records. The CD is currently being mixed by Andy Wallace, who has previously worked with AVENGED SEVENFOLD, WHITE ZOMBIE, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, SEPULTURA, SLAYER and NIRVANA, among many others.

"I'm incredibly psyched with the way this album came out and can't wait to share it with everybody," guitarist John Petrucci, who also serves as the producer for "A Dramatic Turn Of Events", said. "We are currently in the mix stage with the great Andy Wallace and it's all sounding amazing!"

"We have poured our hearts and minds into the creation of this album," keyboardist Jordan Rudess offered. "All the life changing events that surrounded us before, as well as during the whole process, fueled our desire to dig deep within ourselves and create the best music we possibly could."

Vocalist James LaBrie said, "In the grand scheme of DREAM THEATER's career, the last several months have been such an incredibly positive, fulfilling and rewarding experience. The new songs and sound has never been so spirited or rejuvenating. I cannot wait for every one of our fans to sink their audio senses into this batch of tunes."

"A Dramatic Turn Of Events" track listing:

01. On The Backs Of Angels
02. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
03. Lost Not Forgotten
04. This Is The Life
05. The Shaman's Trance
06. Outcry
07. Far From Heaven
08. Breaking All Illusions
09. Beneath The Surface

In a recent interview with Music Radar, Petrucci and Rudess were asked if the band's new drummer, Mike Mangini, contributed to the songwriting on the forthcoming CD. "Mike didn't write with us," Rudess replied. "Basically, we got in the studio and did our thing. We wrote songs and sent them to him. He came in and just nailed his parts. He's incredible. I'm finishing my keyboard parts right now, and I'll go to the computer to see how things are lining up, and I'm just speechless. The guy doesn't mess up!" [laughs]

"We had the demos, had them fully written out, and he learned them and added his own stuff," Petrucci stated. "But every time he would do something, if I said, 'Hey, can you do that again?' he'd do it, and it would be perfect. The guy is… he's out of his mind! [laughs] People are not going to believe how great he is."

"But what's really special about him is, he's not just a technician," Rudess added. "Yes, he plays his parts perfectly, but he comes at everything as a total musician. Everything he does has real soul and a depth of feeling."

When asked how not having DREAM THEATER's former drummer, Mike Portnoy, in the recording and writing process changed the band dynamic, Petrucci replied, "It was a lot quieter. [laughs] Mike Mangini's playing style is different. He plays very hard, but he's got a very deep groove. He almost plays behind the beat just a little bit — even through he's right on the money. He's extremely locked in, but if he does do something technical, he's still right there."

These guys have never disappointed me. I can't wait to hear the new stuff!

Because the announcement was being discussed here already.

Just so long as "Beneath The Surface" is an album-ending epic with lyrics by John Myung in the tradition of LTL and TOT, I'll be happy.

I'm gonna make an early prediction that the weakest track will be "Outcry". Really cool track titles though.

Mangini said that one features his most complex drumming (of course that means it could still be the worst, but just something to think about).

IMO it will be the second one.

If there's any meaning behind these words, maybe they've taken a step back from being too metal for their own good. Can't wait to hear the new album!

The Roadrunner press release mentioned a "massive world tour". Hopefully that will include Glasgow on October 12th for the third album running (although is it a little late to start announcing arena tours for October?).

Yeah, and hopefully the European summer tour won't be counted as a part of the massive world tour, so we get to see them again soon! :D

I'll be seeing them on August 4th in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, at the Fezen festival. You'll find this hard to believe, but the one-day ticket, if bought before June 30th, costs only 16 (sixteen) euro!

I'd love to see them again, this time as a headliner.
I know it isn't credible, but according to Wikipedia Jordan is using the MorphWiz again.

From a new interview with Petrucci:

Q: What plans do you have in mind for your next round of touring?

A: We have thought about the tour. The first tour we’re doing is in Europe, a festival tour with some headlining dates, as well. We’re playing some interesting places like Russia, Kiev, Rome, everything like that. Initially, it’s us getting out there. We’ll play a song from the new album, but it will be focused more on the festival scene, and people’s introductions to Mike Mangini. When we tour in the fall in support of the record, we’ll initiate some of the new concepts, new imagery, new lighting and video presentations, and, of course, the new songs. It’ll be something different at that point.

Yeah, I'm not gonna listen to the single before the album comes out, just so I don't know anything from it when I listen to it.

I will. Dream Theater albums are very overwhelming for me. That's why I liked the last one, it didn't take long to get used to 6 songs. Now I pretty much know every song begining to end while Awake, an album I've had for a year, has some material that is still new to me whenever I listen to it.
