Portnoy handled a lot of interactions with the fans and management, and also produced with JP. The band has been doing a great job of comminicating with fans without him, IMO. I can't wait to see what JM contributes.

I heard that he is doing lyrics on a song. First time since Falling into Infinity right?

OK. Still a long time since he last wrote then. I also wonder if there is a song about MP leaving...

I doubt it, since the band wants to look like they are moving forward and going for something fresh on this album. Its always a possibility though, considering there were a few songs influenced by Kevin Moore leaving.

The thing about JM writing lyrics again is just a rumor, no official details about the track listing have been divulged to the public as of yet.

As for Portnoy's musical contribution, I guess he could have at least helped with the arrangements of the songs. I guess that the musicians composed the songs together, i.e. JP or JR came in with riffs and ideas and then the four of them worked together on the song until they considered it completed. Of course, maybe they made a deal that every song would simply have the entire band credited for the music (which is quite a generous gesture towards JLB).

That's why I thought of them writing songs about MP's departure.

No Jordan Rudess said that JM wrote lyrics. I think that is official enough.

I hope that this new album is absolutely brilliant purely so that the people who have been saying that Portnoy leaving is the death of Dream Theater and that Portnoy is Dream Theater can finally shut up.

It's worth buying if it's half as good as Black Clouds.

Neil Peart, who makes his own drum patterns does not get credit for that either. I deduce that from the fact that he only gets credits for songs with lyrics (which he writes).

But it might be that Portnoy contributed more than Peart, musically,

JP has just tweeted "Finishing up the new DT record this week. Can't wait for everyone to hear this!".

Is anyone else starting to get a little bit excited?

A tad. This is the first time I'm waiting for a DT album as a fan. :D
