Dream Theater

I'll listen to whatever Dream Theater release before the album is released, but I won't download any leaks.

The reason I don't see the point in Dream Theater releasing a single is that it probably won't make any difference to album sales. Everyone who wants to buy the album will buy it and those who want to download (steal) it will do so. They'll make more new fans by playing at festivals (which they already are) than they will from releasing a pointless single which won't sell or make any impact.

It's not pointless, in that it gives the fans something to buy. A lot of singles in the metal industry are for the collectors, the hardcore fans. DT knows they're not going to have a chart-topping hit, and they don't give a fuck. Singles let people who REALLY love DT show it.

Maiden's no different.

What I really want is a special edition with decent pacaging.  <_<

Do CD singles still exist then? I haven't seen one for years.

Listened to Count Of Tuscany again today and I've thought about it a bit. First off, I read that the lyrics are based on a true story about JP. Anyone know about it? The lyrics come off as odd to me. And call me crazy, but I think it could've been longer. After the slow solo it trails off and isn't that good anymore, it's like a bridge but it doesn't lead anywhere, the song just ends.

Nah, I'm glad that it ends when it did, the ending is by far the best part and it just kinda leaves it with a nice climax with the "oooohhhs". I knew it was a true story but I can't remember the details either haha, I know it was around 2002-2003 IIRC.

Interesting, its one of my favourite DT moments. I've overlistened to the song a bit though :p

Which part is your favourite?

I've overlistened too. It's a great song. To play on guitar it would have to be 9:37. It's a great workout on the arm Listening(and playing too in fact) would be the intro up to Jame's singing. There is some great stuff going on there. I think learning it on guitar is also a factor in me not liking that part. I usually turn the song off by that time because it is just incredibly easy. The same chords for about 3 minutes. Not to mention the 3 minute solo full of long notes. Don't get me wrong, it's an incredible solo but rather boring to play on guitar.

BTW, are you on the DT forums? I saw a user with a similar nick and the same avatar.
It seems I'm a bit odd when it comes to my tastes in DT, according to the survivor. And of course me not liking the end of TCOT.

I don't like Learning to Live as much as other people seem to.
I love Lie and Space Dye Vest. Erotomania and Silent Man are OK.
I think As I Am is awesome
I don't like Repentance.
I think Constant Motion is one of the best tracks on SC
And finally, I think Prophets of War is awesome.

Yeah, I'm Jirpo on the DT forums :p
I don't like LTL as much as others too, it would be around the 20 rank for me. Most of Awake is just above average to me, with the few stand-outs being Voices and Scarred. As I Am is pretty good. Repentance, constant motion and prophets of war all suck IMO :p Although there not as bad as people make them out to be :p

My biggest "DT blasphemy" would have to be that Endless Sacrifice is my #3 currently :p and TMOLS is also in my top 7-8.

What's TMOLS? And I can't believe you think Constant Motion sucks! That song is awesome, and the solo is one of the best. I don't get the hate for POW. Could you explain that? And Repentance does suck.

Oh, and that forum is so incredibly crowded! Every DT fan must be in there!

Yeah, its hard to keep a track of everyone on there and its a lot less intimate than this forum.
TMOLS=The Ministry of Lost Souls
I guess Constant Motion and PoW aren't that bad. Constant Motion has just never really struck a chord with me for whatever reason. Prophets of War is a little better, I think most of the hate comes from the lyrics and the strong Muse influence which didn't turn out too well. And everything after the second chorus isn't very good IMO. The first half of Repentance is pretty good too, but the end drags on too long.
SC is my least fave DT album in general, only songs that stand up to the rest of the discography IMO are TMOLS and ITPOE.

I like it. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet though. POW being the last song I heard and I actually heard it for the first time today. And it clicked instantly.(A rarity for DT) I guess there is a Muse sound in it, never thought of that. I get the lyric hate, but it's so hard to understand James it doesn't really matter.

Haha thats true I guess :D People at the DT forums can't seem to get past bad lyrics, which is why some of them rate Tuscany a bit lower than they perhaps should. Its also why ATG got eliminated fairly early in the Maiden survivor I've been running over there. Come join in if you want! :D I'll be starting Brave New World in a few hours :)

I've been very impressed with some of the fan made artwork especially in the last two pages of that thread, have you checked it out?

Yes I have, I have posted there too. I'm gonna see how their humour is over there. There is some very nice artwork, especially the clown one. I'll check out the survivor right now. :)
Finished.

I gotta agree with Jupz, the final part of Count of Tuscany is my favorite moment on the entire record, LaBrie sounds brilliant and so emotional, much more than in The Best of Times which should have been more emotional, as it dealt with Portnoy's dying father.

Also, the long boring instrumental part in the middle of the song is my least favorite moment, I always skip it when listening actively.

Well I don't like it as much. My favorite moment on the entire record would probably be the slow part of ANTR.
