I knew it was Mangini from the beginning, his audition was represented with almost 10 minutes of footage, while the others got 4-5 each...

I haven't seen part two yet. But the fact that he also played on three LaBrie solo albums. He played with DT even, live.  ::)

They know him very well.

Great stuff in part 1 anyway. Love his sound.

Makes sense as well yeah. This was definitely made for archiving purposes. Great DVD (extra). :)

Still watching part 1. Cool that they play stuff to him, which he hasn't heard yet.

He did, and Peter Wildoer (last one to audition) is the current drummer and growler for LaBrie. So two LaBrie drummers auditioned :)

Roddy wasn't chosen because they they didn't record it well enough.  :D
When Minnemann comes on you see Petrucci looking less and less happy because it's getting difficult to choose.

Minnemann didn't make it because he was too good and too tall.  :D

Priester wasn't chosen because he was chewing gum all the time.

Mangini seems like the right guy. Very emotional too! You definitely can see where his roots lay. :)
I have said it before but I am really interested in how this will work out musically. I am not a big LaBrie fan, but this aspect is cool to follow.

That's even weirder than the song.

I did not know that the "honor of god" and "Xmas morning" quotes were the same movie, though - let alone the same woman.

I actually thought Xmas Morning was James.

No. It's the quote that is used in 6:00

Jordan Rudess is going to be a special guest to a band called Blackfield on a few of their North American shows (details here: http://jcrudess.wordpress.com/2011/05/1 ... r-details/).

Apparently, he's going to perform solo... I'm very interested to see what he'll be playing and how exactly he intends to capture the attention of several hundred (or thousand) fans just by himself.

I expect they'll announce a UK tour late-August. In 2007 they played at Download festival with two other UK dates then announced a UK tour, but I think they announced their last UK tour in 2009 several months prior to appearing at Download festival.

Here's the answer to your question: Mangini only played on the album, didn't participate in writing/composing at all.

I wouldn't take that as bad news.

If the music is not going to be that different, and if this stuff is (at least) as strong as in the past, I'd say we may wonder how important Portnoy('s writing contribution) really was. What the hell did he do to deserve a credit?

I thought the same thing. On the last album at least, only 2 songs were really his. And 1 (shattered fortress) was rather weak.
