Coronavirus

European countries are opening their borders for the tourism and I'm afraid it's a bad idea if the safety and healthy measurements are not garanteed and the virus is still not dissapear and the new cases are rising everywhere. I'm seeing teenagers without masks, people smoking in bar terraces…there won't be quarantine for the tourists. I've seen Napoli people and fanatics celebrating that their football team won a cup in a football match, all without masks without social distancing…like the begining of the first wave of the virus.
We must be prepared for another wave this summer. And I pray for the next autumn and winter. All because the f**ing irresponsable people.

Unfortunately Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, etc rely so heavily on tourism that the damage to the economy from not lifting the restrictions is probably unacceptable

This is how it's supposed to work. The same goes for shops - the big supermarkets who have strict policies and barriers etc in place, and the small ones in idyllic village communities where people politely wait outside and say 'good morning' to everyone they meet. Sadly, Poundland in Middlesbrough doesn't fall into either of those categories.

Italy's share of tourism is low because they're a big industrial country. Even Portugal won't be affected as much as Montenegro and Croatia.

I would not say that a country where nearly 14% of the GDP comes from tourism has a "low share" in this respect... That being said, it is definitely true that the north of the country has enough industry to suffer less than many other Mediterranean countries.

It actually is more relevant than that (the data is 2015 Eurostat tho)

Because it shows how much tourists spend relative to your GDP, not how much you earn from them. While you can affect income by lowering expenditures, with COVID you lose that original spending in the first place cause people are not coming.

I don't know where that figure comes from, I'll quote Eurostat in direct money numbers.

Italy earned 13.5 billion euro in 2015, its 2015 GDP was 1832 billion euro.
Croatia earned 7.2 billion euros in 2015, while its 2015 GDP was 49.52 billion euro.

Italy is much more than the North. For instance they build and operate aircraft carriers, and that's just a fragment of their R&D/industrial capacity in super-large scale, they certainly don't do that in Turin. It would be saying UK is only the finance sector inside London. They are a full composite economy and they have their share of troubles but over-reliance on tourism certainly isn't it.

Also Western nations might perceive Italy as stagnant or economically unstable, but even at its lowest it is still desirable emigration point to any EU country east of it (and there are a few). So yeah, MNE/CRO will get screwed way harder in virus-induced tourist recession.

Yeah agreed no-one wants to lose billions. But in case of a pandemic those spenders may become ill and make the situation even worse.

So England's 2m social distancing is to be reduced to 1m, but we're ideally still supposed to stay 2m away from people unless we're wearing face masks, have screens up, or are sitting side by side.

Night Prowler's national hero Novak Djokovic now has Covid19. A couple of months ago he came out as anti-vaxxer and has recently played at a tennis tournament in Croatia (which he may have hosted) which had no social distancing measures. A few other players have also tested positive. What a bunch of morons.

It's still the same! Sort of 'use your own judgement', but we know fine well that a whole bunch of people are going to show appalling judgement.
