Coronavirus

Here in India, all national exams between 19-31 March have been postponed to April.
My final exam was on the 18th.

I’m a peripatetic music teacher who visits lots of schools. Most of my schools have had at least 40% of staff and pupils absent. I am still going to go in and teach the pupils that are left (kids of key workers and those on EHCP plans) Everyone needs joy at this time and music can do that. Especially kids with parents on the front line.

‘Everyone needs something to hang onto that’s real, that somewhere on the world there is something that won’t let you down’ Bruce Dickinson
And that's how virus spreads. :)

Looks like we found the cause

This could be helpful, seems like not effective in advanced cases, but people test negative after 4 days on it.

A Japanese drug used to treat new strains of the flu has shown promise in being effective against the coronavirus in clinical trials, Japanese media reported on Wednesday.

Medical authorities in China said the antiviral drug favipiravir, developed by a subsidiary of Fujifilm, has produced encouraging results in clinical trials in Wuhan and Shenzhen involving 340 patients, according to The Guardian.

Infected patients who were given the drug in Wuhan and Shenzhen tested negative for the coronavirus after a median of four days, compared with a median of 11 days for those who were not treated with the drug, The Guardian reported, citing public broadcaster NHK.

Here are my 2 on the fringe of a country where the virus is growing exponentially.

Yes... it's true the damn thing's impact is little more than a flu to a decently healthy person. But it has one f'ed up trait: it's highly contagious! This crap spreads like wildfire even in cities with great sanitary conditions and decent hygiene habits. So, if it's not properly contained, it will reach a crap load of people that are vulnerable to its aggression (namely: diabetics, people with heart diseases, immunologic handicaps and pneumatic issues). In other words: the vast majority of our elders/ post 65 year old population.

So... to all people outside of Europe and Asia: brace yourselves... you have no clue what's about to hit you. It's not Armageddon or the Black Death by any sorts but it's serious. If your authorities aren't taking the proper cautions do it yourselves. There's no need to panic or stupidly start buying mass supplies for absolute quarantine. That would reduce stocks for people who also need those goods.

But please be careful If you're at least a semi healthy adult/ young person remember: if it's true this virus can't do much of a damage to your health, as a careless carrier you'll be a loaded weapon endangering the life of our oldest and more fragile both by direct contagion or by contributing to an increase on hospital occurrences that endanger the stability of entire health care systems worldwide.

Bear that in mind: if not for you, do it primarily for our weakest, our seniors, our parents, grand parents and all risk groups. Thanks

And the alternative to that is living like a hermit for the rest of your life?
No, but avoiding unnecessary contact etc. Is quite smart way of living now. By making exceptions like that it will be easier to make other exceptions. How would you explain your older parents that you're visiting schools, companies etc. 'to spread joy' But you won't stop by them for a dinner? And if you will agree for that - why won't you grab a beer with friends? One thing lead to another. There is no reason to become a hermit but there is even less arguments to risk someone's else life.
