Coronavirus

@Brigantium I don't know in what kind of company you are working but can't you stay at home and argument this decision with hazard to your life and health resulting from lack of actions taken by management in situation of this co worker? In some countries this is possible and legal.

If something like that happened at my workplace, the health and safety representative would ask for the office to be closed immediately. And if the company took that decision to court, they would lose.

She works for the UK public service.

They're going to be screwed if 200 people are off sick next week
I don't want it to happen but if it did I would have a little smile.

Daily stats:

In Slovenia, we have only 20 new cases today from 850 tests. We had 34 yesterday. It seems that the measures kicking in.

Spain has reached Italy's numbers from 4-5 days ago. The mortality is almost 50% lower. Also number recovered is higher.

Also, as expected, Germany is doing as well as they can.

Meanwhile France and USA are blowing up and are likely to overtake S. Korea and Germany in the next couple of days.

I would urge caution when comparing absolute numbers. It would be more appropriate to compare the numbers per, for example, 100000 people to get a better picture of the impact on different countries.

Regarding Italy, if I am not mistaken, it is the European country with the highest proportion of over 65s. That could explain the higher mortality rate there.

There are some reports in Spanish news that at least 19 people have died in the same care home over the last 48 hours. :(

In Slovenia, the Ministry of health is preparing to refrain people with chronic illneses from working, since they are the most vunerable.

There are a lot of articles about vaccines and cures going around. The doctors I work with on a daily basis say "those are incremental gains or fairytales. A vaccine will take 18 months, bare minimum. Maybe a year if we get lucky."

That's true. But in the last few days new cases in Slovenia dropped from 50 per day to 20 per day and it seems that measures are working. The typical incubation period is around 4 days, so it makes sense. I'm still not getting my hopes up too much, we'll see at the end of the week. Currently, we are looking at 3 weeks of lockout probably that started yesterday.

Regarding Italy, as I said before, it was a perfect storm. Oldest people, first western country and close contact culture.

Up to 81 cases here, including sick people in cities that were previously unaffected. Not good.

Further updates from Trudeau: National parks shuttered. Emergency Measures Act may be invoked.
