Out of the Silent Planet
Some comments and info from Bruce for Tattooed Millionaire album from a 1990 interview for a magazine:
It's interesting to read his thoughts at the time. He was really enthusiastic about it.
The original version of ''Bring Your Daughter'' sounded a bit dated.
For him, the album is designed to be a very varied one, with a lot of different songs and feels (so like TMP). An album from the 70's, he called it.
People's expectations are higher now, there are no new sounds now, technically speaking. All is about feel. He still thinks the same today!
For him, TM is also an album for people who normally wouldn't listen to rock and metal.
There is so much guitar on the album. The idea was - guitar based album with no keyboards (opposite to TMP and SSOASS).
Janick is such a feel person. He likes to feel comfortable when writing and creating music.
The music on the album was split 50/50 - him and Janick.
''Son Of A Gun'' - Bruce wrote the intro and the riff, he wanted it to sound like Free. Janick liked the riff a lot.
''Dive Dive Dive'' - he wanted to use intro from Run Silent Run Deep movie.
''Hell On Wheels'' - he thinks it's ok. Rod was crazy about it. The AC/DC feel is on purpose.
''Gypsy Road'' - it was written for 10 minutes. It sounds great and he really love it. In terms of singing, its some of the best for him.
''Zulu Lulu'' - he wanted to do something with ''jungle drums'' and to move people, unlike some metal (?).
''No Lies'' - they were pushed for time on the jam session. He's not a big fan of the studio version.
title track - Janick had the riff for it.
They didn't do demos for this album.
He tend to write songs around a chorus.
He thinks it's a good record and Maiden fans should like it.
He wanted to play with Janick since the Samson days. They are mates since then.
He had this album in him for ages. But he couldn't have done it 10 years ago.
The songs are clear and defined. It works because it's different to Maiden and heavy. Heavy?
Steve thinks it's great and all the guys in Maiden. Steve thinks it will outsell Maiden.
He said Kiske sings a bit like him and he also liked the album. Apparently, there were rumors about him leaving Maiden even back then because of the solo albums within the band.
New ideas and projects excites him. Maiden and solo career are different, one is a band thing. 3 years later, he changed his mind.
Steve suggested Janick to the band after he heard TM. He had never realised how good Janick was. ''Sparks fly when Janick starts to play''.
