I first heard the LAD versions of several Di'anno era songs before the originals and I definitely don't prefer them.I guess it also works with hearing some versions of a song (studio/live) and preferring the first one.

I don’t think it’s terrible outright but otherwise I agree with you. The original was already pretty much perfect and it’s a shame they had to ruin it.Iron Maiden remaster cover is so ugly. Totally eliminates the raw comic book feel of the original that perfectly represented the music. The new Eddie is more polished and lacks any personality. Just a generic CGI zombie.
This seems to be a reference to Purgatory's devil. Why does Eddie have a fucking earring?

52. 12 Wasted Years (Riggs)
Overall: 5.00/10
Even though this one comes in higher than many, it also didn't get any 10 votes, much like Holy Smoke. Someone liked it enough to give it a 9, though. Obviously a very hastily drawn Eddie that relies upon the various covers told at this point. The short hair is really odd to me, and the teeth appear, well, almost too white. The robot eye is off-centre, whereas the spark-filled eyes isn't, giving Eddie almost a cross-eyed look. This isn't a very pretty Eddie, and I'm surprised it got this high, especially when much better Eddies (like the Virtual XI Eddie) went low. It's enough to make me think people voted for the songs rather than the Eddie.

It would be interesting if some younger fans could confirm / disagree with your neophyte theory.
Personally I feel the new one lacks the raw charm of the original.
Edit: and thanks for resurrecting one of the best threads on the board
That wouldn't make sense because that compilation was only intended to cover the 1990–2010 period. There aren't any other references to the '80s on the cover. This seems to be a reference to Purgatory's devil.
Great factoid! It was drawn for use on tours whereby the letters in his mouth could be changed to the names of a city.

I agree! Or well, it’s really close with LAD’s artwork, but it’s definitely an underrated piece of art that I love a lot!My all time favorite Eddie is the Clairvoyant one. The old Eddie writing shit down with the candles. That's my all time favorite Eddie artwork. I think Eddie looks his most menacing when he's calm and composed, and that cover perfectly captures it.
He must have had just been told: "Never hate your enemies, it clouds your judgement."The old Eddie writing shit down with the candles. That's my all time favorite Eddie artwork. I think Eddie looks his most menacing when he's calm and composed
