Best Eddie

You know, I've always wondered...what's the best Eddie? Lots of people have very strong opinions on the subject. Similarly, what's the worst Eddie?

My favourite Eddie is the Aces High cover, followed by Powerslave cover - man, that scene is majestic. But lots of people prefer many other covers as well.

So, to help out...

We can have a discussion regarding this, but I encourage everyone to take 5 minutes and fill out this survey. Maybe after a month or so, I can post the Maidenfans.com Eddies order.

Best Eddie? Van Halen, of course!

Joking aside, Powerslave followed by Live After Death and The Number of the Beast.

It stopped being interesting to write about, unfortunately.

Powerslave for me. No doubt one of greatest cover arts ever, not just Maiden. Than LAD, Beast and Seventh Son.

It can be recalled that Derek Riggs himself reproaches Queen for ripping it off on the cover of their Miracle album (1989).

I'd love to see the source of queen admitting this on tv.

This is the best Eddie for me:
(classic!)

My top 10 probably would be:
(in no particular order)

FOTD (album)
Powerslave
Killers
The Wicker Man (not the one with the band on it)
TAATG (Eddie as a card player)
Live After Death
Trooper
Death On The Road
POTO
FOTD (live single)

Thanks for posting the results.

Live After Death is a worthy winner. Probably my favourite too.

Eddie of Iron Maiden is Killers(ing) Margaret Thatcher, current (at the time) Prime Minister of the UK, AKA the Iron Lady. It's a pretty good joke. I always feel something special about this yellow streetlight vibe of the early Eddies. Nostalgia. Gillian Anderson's portrayal of Ms Thatcher in the Netflix drama, The Crown, is so tortuous that it makes me wish she would meet an end such as this in the show.

My friend, Matt, had this poster on his wall. I thought it was weird that Eddie wasn't so prominent. Bunch of Easter eggs on the control panel is quite droll. This motif would return in 2015 via the Speed of Light video. I guess that's good.

What´s really amazing: One of the dates on the control panel, June 27th 1999 is the birth date of actor Chandler Riggs

I like it better than Matisse's Icarus. The detail of the denizens of hell is fantastic, Eddie's face not so much. The window of Eddie's cell from the cover of Piece of Mind is barely visible above Icarus (beneath the gap between O and N). I think this picture marks an end of an era in Eddies as future incarnations brought him to more varied locales (than London or Hell) and the color palette gets broadened from here on out.

How many Eddies are too many? Nice mix of classic Eddies and a few more obscure ones as well. His face does look weird in a few of these.

I prefer the “mixture of Eddies” going on from the Somewhere Back In Time cover more than this one. This one feels weird to me.
