Best Eddie

I don't think anyone argues about the skill with which the Eddie was executed, but the actual design itself.

I also think it's a bit sad that so few people seems to like the final frontier Eddie. Its one of my favourite designs of the last 20 years or so.

I think this one is really interesting. I like the idea of a ghost/reaper Eddie. I think the Eddie itself is absolute garbage, one of the worst "beastial" Eddies that Riggs ever drew. In retrospect, I wonder if I had found a better quality image if it would have made it this far. Love the design of the scythe though, it looks legit badass, but this still feels like someone was phoning it in.

It looks like an overly generic Eddie in a grim reaper outfit rather than a grim reaper Eddie. I think the difference there is key.

The alien Eddie isn't that great itself, although I really like that it tries something different and does it rather well anyway. Those TFF retro covers themselves are actually pretty amazing, I really like the idea and execution there; it would have been awesome to have them as 7" vinyl singles.

And yeah, that alternate BYD...TTS cover is a bit lame attempt. Grim reaper Eddie in a graveyard is a concept that could have resulted something much better.

It's certainly not a very standout kinda cover, but I like the feel of it. A different Maiden cover.

I was unable to find a credit for this piece, but I actually like it a lot. The Eddie himself is very reminiscent of the "golden years" Eddie, with the familiar eye structure, the skin stretched over the nose, the more narrow, clever-looking face. The way the inside of the mouth is blended into the circuit board is quite odd. Love the classic Iron Maiden logo too. I think this is a much better effort than it received credit for.

I've always liked the execution of The Virus artwork, it's pretty nice. That one is Riggs' work as well, I reckon.

I think it is as well, but I can't prove it - would appreciate a source if you have one!

does it say on the record?

I can check my copy tomorrow if no one else can any earlier than that. My gut feeling is that i've seen it written somewhere that it is Riggs.

So this is the Best Eddie thread, not the best cover, right?
Because the El Dorado cover is outstanding.

Bring your Daughter is a generic cover with a bad Eddie.
Virus is a good concept well-executed, with a solid Eddie.

Yes, the original question was based on the Eddie, not on the cover. Some people voted based on the cover. Some people, I am convinced, voted for the song. The Virus Eddie is much, much better than it got credit for. I also love the comic-book covers, but I know a lot of people dislike Alien Eddie.

This is almost a two-for-one with the Eddie in the background on the poster. Lots of fun little monsters drawn in, and a stealth Batman logo. Also, Oscar the Grouch in the trash can on the right. This cover almost takes us back to older days, but the Eddie is so blah. This is the last of the sub-five Eddies, and I really hope we're done with this concept style soon. Even if Eddie is clinging to a nice legally-distinct-from-Jessica-Rabbit type figure.

Here's a throwback Eddie. Although from the same time-frame as the chubby-cheeked monster Eddie that dominated the early 1990s, this one is far closer to the No Prayer cover Eddie, leather jacket, a longer face. Still, he really appears dull here, with a barely sketched face. It looks like his arms are weirdly elongated as well. I don't think this is a good Eddie - obviously, he's not as important to the cover as everything else, which makes it an odd cover. Anyway, this is the first Eddie to get a 5.00, which means everything going up gets slowly better. It'll take 21 Eddies before we get to the 6 point range, though...welcome to the doldrums.

Holy Smoke Eddie isn't too bad. Not a stand-out but it's decent. I saw a guy at school wearing a shirt of it so that's cool.
