Started out as a blatant rip off of Hendrix – then we ended up tuning down cos my voice doesn’t do the girly voice thing. Scott Gorham wails on that track.
A jazzy intro leads into a cool, funky verse, a strong pre-chorus, and an almost great chorus. Love the uptempo bluesy solo break.
Back to heaviness. Good song.
Oops, looks like there may have been a U.K. edition back in '97 that dropped "Hypocrisy", so you can scratch that comment.but no version of the album ever materialized with "Hypocrisy" removed
Pretty cool song.
Pretty good song
A cool back & forth intro between guitar and bass. Great main riff, great verse. Kiske sounds strong. Weaker pre-chorus, and the chorus is OK, but a bit of a letdown. [...] Parts of this song are really excellent, but the weaker parts drag it down a bit.
Boo at The Calling getting eliminated so early.
bright as a fire [contains] more than a few moments of brilliance...
I really enjoy "Bright As A Fire" [...] I like the slow build, and it really gets me with the crunching, remorseless, grinding rhythm [...] I also like the way Adrian sneaks in various harmony lines under the chorus.
This one starts very promising with its calm but threatening beginning. Unfortunately the song turns into a repetition fest with (even if you get used to his voice) some annoying singing, especially in the heavy couplets. The chorus I find pretty good but it's repeated too often. One of the tracks I enjoy the least.
A moody verse [...] Good melodic chorus. [...] Sweet soloing [...] Nice buildup at the end.
Good, but not as good as the previous three.
What the fuck, I wasn't expecting THIS. This is Chemical Wedding levels of heaviness. Holy shit.
THE one song to make someone jump (give someone a fright). Don't tell the person you're gonna play something, turn it on, fairly loud, if possible. And this song is the one to totally shock someone. That beginning is merciless.
The opening riff makes a statement. Nice verse and pre-chorus. The chorus is OK, but kind of flat. [...] Very nice solo.
Great song.
Surprisingly good song
Machine Men is good
Machine Men I feel somehow don't fit on this album, although the song itself is good
meh song
Worst song [and] most disappointing song [on the album]
This board hates [...] Machine Men more than they hate Montenegro.
Strong verse. [...] Strong, catchy chorus. [...] After the chorus we get a pretty cool solo and a preview of the outro with more distorted mumbling, then another sweet melodic solo. [...] Great, crushing outro. Lots of people aren't keen on this song, but I think it's great.
I really really love this one. The chorus and guitar leading to it are pure gold, and so is the solo. It’s fairly weird but it’s still a fantastic song to me.
Machine Men over Killing Floor? Justice! I'd personally rank it even higher, but oh well - just beating the overrated Killing Floor is fine with me.
Machine Men can't die soon enough.
Standout track
A.S.A.P very poppy but with some reall cool riffs and blistering solo's especially Blood on the Ocean..
What I like about the ASaP stuff is that he wrote from the heart- the songs and lyrics mean something. [...] "Blood On The Ocean" [...] had a message that sought to make the world a better place
I've always found the lyrics a bit cheesy, H forgive me!
Cool intro. Heartfelt verse, anthemic chorus. The instrumental break is cool, but feels a bit out of place. Very nice solos, with a truly epic ending to the final one.
Figures that they would keep the deepest song for the end. Other than "The Lion", it's the best one here. Great closer.
Mike’s song. One of my personal favourites. I hope I did his writing justice.
Another well-executed ballad with a good verse, a great pre-chorus, and a nice but slightly disappointing chorus.
Another quieter track. I like this one a lot.
You're about to be very happy, then...Thank Christ we're finally gonna start seeing more WTTW tracks.
Another masterpiece from Adrian. I love this song – great lyrics from Adrian. And a great solo. Just a comment on the state of the world really.
Very good title track. There's a riff here that's kinda similar to "Killing Floor".
An aggressive intro gives way to a cool verse groove and a strong chorus. Love that sweet bluesy bridge that's bookended by the opening riff. Nice melodic solo.
Some of the songs still suffer a bit from bad arrangements though, mainly the title track, which must be the weakest track on here.
I like Adrian's singing, especially some old Urchin stuff (eg My Lady)
Don't you find that ["My Lady"] sticks out for [its] melodic quality?
Decent verse, good pre-chorus...hey, wait a minute, I guess that was the chorus? That's odd. Another verse, an actual pre-chorus this time, and then that odd chorus again. [...] Nice extended bluesy solo
