As you scream into the web of silence...
For me, the most important part of a song is its chorus. You can have fantastic verse, solo, riff, whatever, but if the chorus falls flat then typically the entire song does too. "The Longest Day" is a great example of this.
Sometimes a song has better verses than it does a chorus, but the chorus cannot be bad or the verses will mean nothing. "Death or Glory" doesn't have a spectacular chorus but it does have fantastic verses. I don't hate the chorus, however, I still like it, so the song can remain one of my favorites on TBOS.
It's much easier to like songs without choruses, then - "Rime" and "Empire" are spot-on and they only utilize verses. Meanwhile, a solo, for me, is merely the cherry on top of an already great song. "Powerslave" and "Rime" are good on their own, but the solos are phenomenal and elevate already great songs even higher.
For me, "Misunderstood" isn't bad, but it just doesn't have a very good chorus and that already weighs the song down. The rest of it isn't much more memorable though.
