2014 Tour Rumours

Holy Smoke but no Lord of the Flies and/or The Clansman? Interesting.
I love the lyrics in Holy Smoke, it's one of my all-time faves. I'd be equally happy with The Clansman, however, or even Public Enema No. 1.

Well, I also prefer to see Holy Smoke, mainly because I never did before, but I quite like it as well. But for the rest your list was rather "realistic" if I may say so (apart from ATG), so I wondered why you didn't make it a bit more realistic. Both Clansman and LOTF were played by this line-up. Holy Smoke was played in 1991 for the last time.

I dunno, I think Maiden still have a few surprises left in them, despite the lack of imaginiation in the Maiden England setlist. I have a soft spot for NPFTD, so I'm hoping at least three or four tunes will rear their heads, however far-fetched that may be.

It's a fair point, I do wonder how they would rework some of the 90s songs to include Adrian. Although they have performed a few 90s songs since he came back, enough to pad out a setlist once you've got the, er, classics, in there.

I only think he should if his contribution is of lesser quality. Whoever plays a better solo should play the damn solo, IMO.

There are some moments where Janick's style simply fits a song's energy much better, but if H has a better solo on a song he wrote/recorded/originally soloed on, he should play it (and vice versa).

Yeah, but he still plays solos during some songs that were originally recorded by H. Can't remember which, but I'm sure someone from the Favorite Guitar Solos thread has an idea...Foro?

One that comes to mind right off the bat is Moonchild during 2008-09. They had Janick play Adrian's solo, and it sounded horrible (in my opinion, and comparing it to Adrian's, of course).

You can always check out the Flight 666 footage to see, but here's the concert I saw in 2008, and Janick's solo sounds even worse here.

They both seem to also share the Trooper solo when they play it live (seen it done in several versions of the song since 1999). Dave has his solo all to himself, while Adrian/Janick both play the first solo.

They sound almost identical on The Trooper, though. The only one that makes me shudder is that Moonchild solo during SBIT....

Let's ask Davey to play all the "damn solos" then...
Seriously, they couldn't ask Janick to stop playing some solos just because Adrian was back. It would have been insulting, ad it's normal that that all three guitarists have their part. I personaly never considered the solo the highlight of the song, and I've never understood why all Metal songs are supposed to have at least one solo.

Really? When does Janick's version fit better? i.e. did you mean on any (original) H played tracks?

No, I meant on tracks that Janick originally soloed on. Generally, the person who wrote the original solo (and probably helped write the song) is more suited to the song.

Moonchild! That was it. Janick's solo is awful. This is exactly my point.

Janick's solo fits in The Trooper. But Moonchild...that's song requires a little more finesse.

On songs that Adrian originally played the solos? I think they could ask that of Janick. How come Davey doesn't have to give up any solos? He could lose one and give it to Janick, but I don't see that happening.

Also, metal does not need solos, but it certainly makes most songs better. Whenever there's a long bridge in a metal song without a guitar solo, I get bored (re: the last four Iced Earth albums).

Hopefully, such an heresy will never occur. First, he's been here almost since the beginning, and I assume it gives him some privilege. Second, he has always been considered Maiden's main guitarist : he is always prominent in the mix. Third, his sound and his technique are special, and none of the other guys would be able to reproduce his solos : they are simply not fluid enough (and, please, I didn't write "talented enough"). Along with Harry's bass sound, his solos are Maiden's trademark, soundwise, and it would be pointless to get rid of that.

I bet we're looking at something like this:

1. Be Quick Or Be Dead
2. Futureal
3. Wrathchild
4. Die With Your Boots On
5. The Trooper
6. Afraid To Shoot Strangers
7. Here To Eternity
8. Holy Smoke
9. NOTB
11. Sign of the Cross
12. Man on the Edge
13. Fear of the Dark
14. Iron Maiden
--------------------
15. Tailgunner
16. BYDTTS
17. RTTH
--------------------
18. Alexander The Great (ok, maybe not. But I can dream, dammit. :D )

I'd really like to here somme of the songs from No Prayer. I saw them three times back then, and Tailgunner was awesome live, like the title track. I'd love to hear Run Silent... too, but this won't happen. At the time, I enjoyed the other songs they played from that album, but I just hate Bring your Daughter and Hooks in You, Maiden's worst songs ever in my opinion. The Clansman and Lord of the Flies would be fantastic. It would be so refreshing to hear that stuff again.

I predict that Maiden will either have a new album out in the middle of next year and then tour for that or next year's tour will be a warm up tour for the new album and they'll do a new song, but I don't think it will be another history type tour since there have never been 2 of those in a row.

I'm pretty damn sure Dave wouldn't be able to duplicate Adrian's solos either. They both have special techniques and sounds.
