Your Maiden blasphemy

I can't really object too much. The rest of the song is amazing, and it's only the guitars in the verse that I don't like.

Can you give me a good timeblock to examine? I find it hard to believe that the Lord AlmigHty would write poor guitars for a verse.

I own 5 pairs of Maiden sneakers (at the age of 37) and wear them constantly.  However, my Piece of Mind pair usually get skipped in the rotation because I find the album as a whole weak.. From WED to TTAL. Only a few songs save these shoes from the bin.

wow. Just wow. I find POM to be the perfect golden era album so naturally I am insulted.  :ninja:

I'll support that. Do you suppose being Canadian intensifies our appreciation of this masterpiece? It was our boys, after all, that accomplished what the others could not... When I read comments about this song that are anything but glowing, I'm almost unbelieving, although my ambivalence towards ROTAM causes most others here to feel the same way.

For me, it is a complete experience...but that is part of it, yes. If you know anything about the War, you know that name. Seared into your soul.

I have relatives who never left that field, too.

I think I get what he is talking about. The verse guitars are rather simple. It isn't bad but it just isn't as good as some of the other guitar parts. It is basically a variation of the descending riff after the intro.  However, in conjunction to the rest of the instruments it comes out very good. But by itself it isn't as great.

Wow. I didn't realize there was a personal connection. There is no military history in my family, but there is a deep appreciation of the sacrifices that the members of our armed forces have made, and are making today. Every one of them has my respect and thanks...

I think POM is one of Maiden's best! I think SIT is a weak album! Pashendale is a masterpiece! I was mad when they dropped it out of their set last summer for DOD!

I love Piece of Mind, but a few average songs (Die With Your Boots On, Sun and Steel) and one terrible one (Quest for Fire) worsen it for me. However, the other 6 are insane, and I still like the two average songs, so its still one of my fave Maiden albums.

It should be noted that mckindog is actually a moderator sock; everyone who blasphemed against Paschendale is now banned.

I sock?
...and I always thought that was different vowel they were using when they talked about me ;)

Paschendale is amazing, but IMO its not a top 10 Maiden song. I would rank it about 20th.

1:14-1:35.

They are certainly not bad - It's just that they don't do anything for me.

There does seem to be a lot of love for the reunion albums on this forum...

They just don't have the energy the earlier albums had.

I want to rock out  :edmetal: and not hear yet another power ballad about some soldier being killed in a war...  <_<

Excuse me, but did you just call Paschendale a power ballad? I'll just go and fetch wood for the fire.

On a more serious note: I think there is one problem with the reunion era albums, and that is that many songs feel dragged out more than they need to (it really started with Virtual XI, though). However, the song writing as a whole is more consistent now. In my book, the lesser songs from this era are miles ahead of the lesser songs from the 80s and early 90s. So, I can understand that some don't like the new Maiden era as much, if they prefer for example NOTB, The Trooper and Wrathchild over longer songs like Phantom of the Opera or Rime of the Ancient Mariner. There are not many songs of that kind past 2000, and several of them sound forced (like Wildest Dreams, Different World and The Final Frontier - musically they are all just lesser versions of The Wicker Man anyway). It's like they are there because the band felt they had to include some short, fast songs.

As for me, I love many of the longer songs from the modern era as well.

Leave at least one option for 9.
