Yeah, I am hoping more states follow that lead ...What a day... or week this will be...!
I just found out that Maine is the first state to use ranked-choice voting in presidential general elections. Well done.
For the most part, I would think the next states to gravitate towards it would be states with propositions on the ballot (not Texas). I think Washington could be next, along with other states listed here where it is permitted at the non-state level for the general election or at the state level for primariesRanked choice might cost Susan Collins’ senate seat.
I agree that it is a superior system, it may be some time before other states catch on. I could see Colorado, Arizona, maybe Texas or Georgia depending on how state level races this year go, following suit. Mostly swing states that have blue leaning state legislatures but frequently vote for republicans in federal positions
I think I would ignore any "results" at this stage while voting is still going on ... that might turn out to be correct, but no one can possibly know at this stage .. it is all speculation. In cases like "Vermont will go to Biden, North Dakota will go to Trump" ... most likely accurate speculation. But for the swing states .. no one can possibly know the results at this stageThe live stream I'm watching already has biden at 290 and Trump at 163... Going to hunt around to confirm.
What? Polls don't close until 7 PM EST.I think by 7PM EST we will have a pretty good idea ... If Biden is declared the winner in NC, Ohio, and/or Florida (or is leading in Florida enough to offset the Panhandle vote .. it is all over and the rest does not matter for the Presidential race .... if those are all real close or Trump wins Ohio, NC/Floria , it is doubtful we will know who wins tonight at all.
The earliest anything closes is at 6PM EST ... the last is Alaska at either midnight or 1AM EST .. everything else is in betweenWhat? Polls don't close until 7 PM EST.
