USA Politics

Forgot about NE-2, I would’ve given him that too but what’s done is done.

No AZ but Iowa, NC, and Ohio. That would be something!

AZ is moving to tightening, Ohio is moving in the other direction, and I expect dirty tricks in GA and PA will block Biden victories there.

Happy Election Day to our American members.

On this day I shall give Trump credit on one account. His Twitter feed is an excellent bullshit filter.

If he retweets something, you can be 99% certain that it is, in fact, bullshit.

Ranked choice voting is a superior choice to FTTP, and I agree. I was very strongly in favour of the introduction of it here in Canada, but the current government chickened out.

Ranked choice might cost Susan Collins’ senate seat.
I agree that it is a superior system, it may be some time before other states catch on. I could see Colorado, Arizona, maybe Texas or Georgia depending on how state level races this year go, following suit. Mostly swing states that have blue leaning state legislatures but frequently vote for republicans in federal positions

For the most part, I would think the next states to gravitate towards it would be states with propositions on the ballot (not Texas). I think Washington could be next, along with other states listed here where it is permitted at the non-state level for the general election or at the state level for primaries

Actually I will take that back. California opted against, Utah legislature approved a pilot program and it is on the ballot today in MA and Alaska,

The live stream I'm watching already has biden at 290 and Trump at 163... Going to hunt around to confirm.

I think I would ignore any "results" at this stage while voting is still going on ... that might turn out to be correct, but no one can possibly know at this stage .. it is all speculation. In cases like "Vermont will go to Biden, North Dakota will go to Trump" ... most likely accurate speculation. But for the swing states .. no one can possibly know the results at this stage

I think by 7PM EST we will have a pretty good idea ... If Biden is declared the winner in NC, Ohio, and/or Florida (or is leading in Florida enough to offset the Panhandle vote .. it is all over and the rest does not matter for the Presidential race .... if those are all real close or Trump wins Ohio, NC/Floria , it is doubtful we will know who wins tonight at all.

Probably a good move .. not planning on watching any of the coverage tonight ... I'll just check my phone now and then for results

What? Polls don't close until 7 PM EST.

The earliest anything closes is at 6PM EST ... the last is Alaska at either midnight or 1AM EST .. everything else is in between

This I may have misread what you said ... they will start announcing results for bigger states at 7 ... if they call anything quick for Biden, it is probably over .. that is what I am saying

Another question about the election and when the result can be expected.

Trump has stated that he thinks the result should be called on election night - that it simply is undemocratic and wrong that the process should take days. Personally I think this is bullshit as there are, to my knowledge, no laws stating any such requirement, and moreover: what matters is that every vote cast according to the rules should be counted.

But the sentiment - is it common? Are there many Americans who think the same as Trump on this issue? Any other than hardcore Trump worshippers?
