ATG's solo is a study in multiple phrasing attacks centered around a pretty tricky rhythm. It manages to be experimental and interesting while still delivering catchy licks.

Sorry, but I don't hear the "climactic lovelessness" you mention in the Breeg solo. If anything it sounds too upbeat, too many typical legato tricks to have the tugging-on-the-heartstrings moment you're talking about. It is a very good Dave solo, but it sounds like a typical Dave solo.
