Result of round 3, 9th battle: Dave Murray's Killers solo (006) is eliminated. 093 advances to the 4th round.

Round 3: 10th battle:

If some tasty Davey licks on a song intro count as a solo, what about Still Life, or Deja Vu or Breeg?
Or were they in the game?

Paschendale! JBMG is a couple of cool intro licks (I don't consider it a fully fledged solo!) and I absolutely love that moment of the song, but come on. Adrian's Paschendale is a monster.

Still Life was. The others were allowed as well, but people did not mention them as their favourites, in the years working towards this game. We couldn't just do all Maiden solos in the game. We've carefully selected the solos before we started.

This is not a new discussion but I find it important enough to repeat:
I hope we won't judge a solo differently because it happens to be at the beginning of a song.

If people might care about length, this Judas Be My Guide solo is longer than Dave's Fear of the Dark solo.

IMO it sounds way better than Adrian's thin sounding runs. The Paschendale solo has more notes, but it's less impressive. I find Adrian's second quarter in particular plain bad, repeating three notes a bit too often. Dave's solo is an excellent showcase of less is more.

An intro vs one of H's best post-2000 pieces of guitar work.

'nuff said.
Enough said, if it made sense maybe. I don't think it's anywhere near H's "best post-2000" guitar work. The very fact that's it's merely comfortable (17-9) versus an intro illustrates this plainly enough. Adrian's best is on another level to this.

Note that he said "one of" and not "best".. You misquoted him and I kind of have to agree with him. Paschendale is, IMO, one of his best reunion-era solos. Lets face it, MOST of Adrians best solo work is pre-reunion. We know that one of his S.I.T solos will probably win this game. However, I wouldn't say that none of his post 2000 stuff isnt on "the same level" as his "best" which you must mean to be his pre-reunion work. He does in fact have many gems of late, and Paschendale is one of them. As an aside, its too bad that solos from TBOS were not in this game because a few may have made it very very far. And not just Adrian's either.
