Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 05/10/08)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 03/04/07)

Having catched up with the last couple of tracks, I'm especially happy with your interpretation of one of Maiden's best 90's songs, The Unbeliever.

This song has such cool parts, also the acoustic ones, and such nice melodies ! So I was very curious how this would turn out.

Well, the mid-piece gives about the same shivers down my spine as the original ! The way the 2nd solo goes from right - to middle - to left is pretty cool !

I also like your choice for the vocals (different from the original) in the chorus!  :ok:

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 03/04/07)

Thankyou very much, Forostar. The solo was improvised but I split it up so the sections could have some more prominence in each ear and also harmonize with one another at specific points. Seemed to work quite well :) I also particularly liked the way the chorus vocal harmony in the right ear came out!

However, next up is the first track of a new era...no more Di'Anno songs left, so it's a mixture of Bayley and Dickinson from here on in! This one is also the first one to feature my brand new Stagg M50 mandolin ( http://www.party-effect.de/images/mando ... nehmer.jpg ), so I hope you enjoy it...it's another Brucie classic!

'Ghost Of The Navigator'!!!

Busy man, Thingfish.

Ghost of the Navigator is one of the best tracks on Brave New World and once again, nicely done by yourself. Futureal is again verification that Blaze or DiAnno stuff suits your voice better.

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 09/04/07)

It's almost in my best range, yes :) I reckon D or Eb is probably my optimum key  :innocent:

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 13/04/07)

I have a bit of catching up to do with the last few songs, Thingfish. I 'll make sure I do it over the weekend - looking forward to it! :ok:

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 13/04/07)

Don't you think I could save you...the repetitions? No, I couldn't! I just had to do it in its original version!!

We finish off the 'Virtual XI' album in style with the Hammond-organ and horn-laden masterpiece that is everyone's most favouritest Maiden song ever!!!

'The Angel And The Gambler'!!!!

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 15/04/07)

great !!

this must be the first Bayley-fishy cover that I hear !! your voice is very Blaze-like man

well what can I say, very cool cover, and I really loved your solo

...if you want, I hate XI's Angel and Gambler where 5 instruments are used
for a mediocre -to be generous- reasult of song
I think if Maiden had recorded the very same song -even with this endless "don't you think..." inside
with simply 2 acoustic guitars inside just like you did,
I would have liked it a lot instead of hating it !!

ps : hey what is that in the start ? clap hands ? genious !
ps #2 : I will listen some other Blaze covers of yours now!

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 15/04/07)

Hehe, thanks _no5  Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, those are handclaps at the start representing the snare drum and clenched fists hitting my knees for the bassdrum :) :) Also I use my mandolin to represent the brass instruments. Seemed to work out quite well :D

Hope you like the rest!!

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 15/04/07)

yeah, I heard all your XI covers, your voice really fit for Blaze works !!
:ok:

So that is how it was done. Good job on this, shall we say, rather unfavoured track. I love the original, in spite of its length. :D

Virtual XI is now complete.

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 15/04/07)

Thanks, albie :) What did you think of 'Face In The Sand', though... :(

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 15/04/07)

My global notoriety seems to be steadily on the rise :) A guy on the Spanish Maiden forum sent me this scan of an article from a prominant Spanish heavy metal magazine talking about the more unique and interesting Maiden tribute acts, and my page gets an honorable mention :)

The scan is fairly low-res unfortunately, but for you Spanish speakers out there, here is the text :

A Matter Of Life And Death"."

You've broken into the business now! :D

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 15/04/07)

Hehe, yep, it won't be long until Maiden ask me to support them on tour, no doubt!  :yey:

However, back to the kind of business I am in at the moment, I'm back with another brilliant Brucie b-side!!

For the first time in 86 songs, my pet Chipmunk, Chippers, who painstaking re-records all my acoustic versions in his fast high-pitched squeaky voice for the 'Chipmunk versions', finally gets the chance to speak one on of the original versions! See if you can spot which voice he does on this one...

'Black Bart Blues'!!!

:D

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 24/04/07)

At first, I did wonder how you would interpret the overzealous fan and the band member, I even thought you may skip it all - but fair play, it's all there (barring the Nicko extras). Nicley done, once again.

Interesting (sort of, anyway) story about those Nicko outtakes materialised on its release. He found himself having to apologise to a mother of a fan after hearing his "tirade of expletives" on the extra bit. So, as his apology was so forthcoming, the metal press were on it like a shot "having to make a public apology" - this so soon after he made "a glove puppet of himself on the Sooty Show". Well, this was all printed in Kerrang back in '88. :D

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 24/04/07)

Yep, I had said at the beginning of the project (at the bottom of my webpage) that I wouldn't be doing the bit Nicko says after BBB. It's just too unique to recreate. I loved doing Bruce's pitch-shifted American-accented nerd at the beginning, though. Great fun :)

Great story on Nicko  For the rest of you who can't make out what he says, here is a rough transcription I did a couple of years ago that might help :

"What ho, sed de t'ing! It's Nicko here! Hi, Hi, toodle-oo!

Ah, fuck...ah, ha, ha, ha! Hah, hah, hah, hah, hah...2, 3, 4...

(Synthesised start of 'The Evil That Men Do' plays)

He fought pretty good miff yerse. He fought pretty good miff yerse.  (i.e. he fought pretty well with you (plural)?)

1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4...I'll fuckin' run that tape, an' then I...

Oh, alright. Uhunnunnuhuuhnunhnuh 'ight. 1, 2, ideyaha, 1, 2, 3...

Ffffwwwhat ho, sed de t'ing!!

Oh, ok. I didn't see you over there, mate!

Wahuhhuhho!!

1, 2, 1, 2, 3...Fuck my old boots!

Bllarrrgghha! Yeah, see? See? Hehhahaha!

Are we ready? 1, 2, 3...Woahho!

'allo? 'allo? Fool!! How 'bout it? Hyeah! Well!

(Triangle note plays)

Jew, Jew, Jew! Hehe. 'at's a fwatoo! Jew, Jew, Jew, Jew, Jew!

The melody 'e's playin', innit?

Jew, Jew, Jew...aahhahahaha!

('arry) Shall I come in there or stay in 'ere?

Ah! Nay, dodi rastafaribo tellin' everyt'ing...

Hm. Right. We take him away, and we go up there. Hm, hm hm hm. I said we take him away and we go up there.

Mmhm, no tea for you here!

See me? We're gonna put this on a CD!! Mmha! Haha! Hehehehe!

Heehee, the guitaree solo, at the end of the song!

('arry) Shut up, mate, I'm on the ball...

Yeah? Come an' a', come an' a standin' there?

I can see you!!

Hmm, hmm, hmm. Hmm, Hmmm! Fffwwwhat ho sed de t'ing...

Heeee, ha ha hi, si sed a' seen 'um!!

For the record, I will NOT be doing an acoustic cover of 'Age Of Innocence (How Old?)', 'Hocus Pocus', 'Mission From 'Arry', 'Pass The Jam', 'More Tea, Vicar?', 'Roll Over Vic Vella' or any of the 'Listen With Nicko' series, all for fairly obvious reasons!! : )

..I wanted to ask you....what's wrong with Pass The Jam and More Tea, Vicar they are fine songs, especially the first  ...you don't like them ??
