Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 05/10/08)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 20/03/07)

Excellent !

Again this Midnight Oil touch in the vocals (first faster couplets). I like the combination of the low vocals and the higher backing vocal a lot.

Thanks, Forostar! That technique fleshes out my voice which is, unfortunately, somewhat reedy on the higher notes with the bass notes which I can perform much more readily. Seems to work ok, but I'll try not to use it on every song. The ones in the key of G down to E seem to be my best, although Maiden don't do many songs in G (apart from BQOBD on which Bruce doesn't so much sing as speak)...

I'm just listening to Fear of the Dark for the first time.  I'm really into it.  I don't agree with Albie's wife  :D -- your vocals are great on this one.  Confident and well-paced.  The intro is my fav part.

Neither do I, but that is nothing new. ;)

I'm trying to hear this Midnight Oil comparison Forostar brings up occasionally. I am not overly familiar with their stuff, but I sort of see where he is coming from on this - I think.

Good effort once again, Thingfish.

So, aside from Sanctuary - this concludes DiAnno's stuff (I believe). :)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 25/03/07)

What else would I save for the encore to the Di'Anno material? :) Did you enjoy Invasion, though, Albie...? :S

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 25/03/07)

I did indeed. But then again, they're good songs done respectfully by a fan - how can we go wrong? :)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 25/03/07)

Up next is another classic from 'No Prayer For The Dying', a song about bondage but not, according to Adrian, about the further adventures of Charlotte The Harlot...and it's the only Maiden track to make reference to a song by Shakin' Stevens!! :) :)

'Hooks In You'!!!

I must admit, of all the tracks on No Prayer, Hooks in You is by far my least favourite. I just don't really like it - shame it's stuck on an otherwise very good album. I had a listen to it your cover Thingfish and, well, as always a good job.

But Unbeliever (I've played it once) sounds pretty good to me. Bonus here, it's a good track to start with. :D

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 02/04/07)

Hooks In You is a very different track to all the others on NPFTD but is still great, in my opinion. A superb remnant from the Smith era that allows Bruce to ham up the sexually-suggestive side of his singing :) If you've read his two novels you will know he's actually a dirty old bastard! :D

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 02/04/07)

Well, we've finally reached the end of the Di'Anno era of acoustic covers, and what more fitting way to send it out than with the all-time classic Maiden encore, the superb...

'Sanctuary'!!!

:yey:

Firstly, Happy 30th birthday Thingfish. :hbd:

Secondly, well done on the producing of the final Di'Anno track. :ok:

Thirdly, interesting how you put in the "live" additions to Sanctuary - i.e. the "Laaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" @ 00:58 and the extra guitar break @ 03:00. Good job. :)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 03/04/07)

Thanks, albie! Now I'm 30 I wonder if I have enough time left to finish the entire acoustic oeuvre...?  :S

I thought about adding even more to those live sections of the track, like doing the crowd singing bit but I ended up leaving it out :)

That's Di'Anno over, Blaze will be next to be finished, and then every track will be a Brucie classic!

Yeah, this is a very nice detail :-) The song is performed nicely, I think it re-creates the mood of the original prefectly and that 'live' addition at 3:00 is really great, in fact, my favourite part of IM live performance of this song, it is great that you have added this to your rendition.

The Unbeliever is one of my IM favourites. Well, the guitar work is great, but the voice - well, I'm not so satisfied this time, the verse is sung too low fo your voice. I understand you tried to keep the difference between verses and chorus, but maybe, it would be better to sing the verse an octave higher and to sing the chorus as you have done it (I do it this way when singing it myself). But anyway, I envy you your skill with a guitar :-)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 03/04/07)

Thanks, Belenor. The Unbeliever vocals are in that awkward key that make it difficult for my vocal range to do it full justice. I had considered doing the verse an octave above, but I like the way the chorus goes above the verse in its pitch and I couldn't do the chorus an octave higher, so I kept the verse low.
