Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 05/10/08)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 12/03/07)

Many thanks, Genghis! I remember hearing that second verse for the first time and getting goosebumps. It is very powerful stuff.

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 12/03/07)

Another example of how The X Factor works acoustically. Seems the new stuff is coming thick and fast - that's about the fourth one in a week, I think.

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 12/03/07)

Excellent Thingfish !! *bowing*

I especially love the midpiece, with those fast guitars (also the high rhythm guitar ones on one side) - starting from 3.33.

This time your vocals (backing vocals) also remind me of another favourite band of mine: Midnight Oil !
They also did some acoustic stuff !

Beautiful solo afterwards!! (Like it even better than Janick's :) )!

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 12/03/07)

Much obliged and appreciated, you two :) That was the 3rd song this month, albie, but hot on the heels of that last number, here's the 4th one! Another classic short piece from the Di'Anno era that brings me up to song number 75!! It's taken a little over one year and a lot of hard work to get to that tally, but I'm sure you'll agree that it has definitely demonstrated my...

'Burning Ambition'!!!

I guess that one wasn't so well received, or may nobody has looked in this thread since I added The Aftermath because they hadn't expected me to add two songs in one day...?  :innocent:

Nice song, in my opinion it works perfectly as an acoustic piece :)
Good job, Thingfish, as always ;)

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 12/03/07)

I did listen to Burning Ambition, but was to wrapped up in the new Onslaught release to give it more attention, however, I can't say more than what has already been said - good job once again.

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 12/03/07)

I'm still trying to find mp3s of my favourite Onslaught album, In Search Of Sanity. I have it on tape and LP, but want it on my mp3 player. I've found a .torrent file for it, but can only get 55% downloaded from it!

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 12/03/07)

EXCELLENT !!

it fits 100% with the original, the mix is superb, vocals, solos everything !!! Very tight too, like the original
I think is one of your best covers, keep on

I am a man who records alone
And, when I'm recording a new song
At night or mixing down a track
When the sound begins to change
And sometimes seem a little strange
I get a little anxious that it will sound like crap...

...but I don't think it did this time :)

'Fear Of The Dark'!!!

:o  :o

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 16/03/07)

I was playing this when my wife heard. She said that the vocals are not brilliant, but the guitar playing reminds her of a Spanish Tapas bar somewhere in the heart of the Mediterranean. Although I have to say your vocals are getting better, I have stated before that I feel your guitar playing has a very Hispanic influence. Good version, all round here. :ok:

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 16/03/07)

Thanks, albie :) Can we hear your wife's version of the vocals? :yey:

The Hispanic influence comes out in the number of hammeron/pull-offs I do in my playing, which is a habit (not necessarily bad, but sometimes) that I have got into. I have to force myself not to do that sometimes, but often the best solos I do have a good deal of those in them, like the solos in The Nomad and Remember Tomorrow.

I think vocals on 'Fear of the Dark' are great :-) Fitting, powerful. And guitar-work is perfect, very well done, Thingfish!

Great to have you back listening, belenor, thanks!  :yey:

Well, I'm here all the time :-) But I think it is not needed to write my opinion on each track, because you are very good with each one - but I felt I should write about vocals on 'Fear of the Dark' when I read Albie's :-)

Do you mean 'The Evil that Men Do'? Yeah, I'd like to hear this one too :-)

I would still love to get your thoughts on each track. You don't necessarily have to just repeat that you liked it if you do, but it rather interests me which specific segments of a song are interesting and for what reason :)

TETMD will come along soon enough. The next song is a Blaze one and then it's a Di'Anno one after that, so it won't be this week... :(

All right, I will try to do this, but I'm not very good at expressing feelings and thoughts, I'm usually only able to tell whether I like it or not :-)

No problem, I can be patient :-)
