The Official Book of Souls Tour 2016 Thread (Warning: Spoilers within!)

Yeah it's no joke at all. Wacken took a huge step forward by starting to book actual big name headliners. In the years before Wacken was always known as a sort of underground, real metal festival. Just in the years I was there from 2005 to 2010 they went from well known but still small German metal festival to like - a big name festival with big name headliners. But the space that they offered was still the same - now it was just waaaay more crowded. And in front of the stage, it's not like they have barriers or anything in front of the stage, it's just one big sea of people.

I was alright with the sound quality for Maiden at Sonisphere last year, but in an outdoor gig you can never feel the bass rattling in your body, which is my favourite part of any intense concert.

If the band had any shred of sense, they'd add some arena shows in the UK.
I predict a large open air gig in the UK this summer. Pray for a Wembley stadium gig, like the Twickers one. Then a handful of arena gigs at the end of the year. Been done before...

You were there as well?

I don't remember having seen pro-footage of this gig. I'd be interested to see more!

I was there myself with my wife and so were @Perun and @national acrobat. First Maidenfans meet I attended. :)

Yes I was there with my friend who I traveled to all of the Wacken shows with at the time. We weren't that close to the stage.

It is the only pro-shot footage I've been able to find. I think it might have been released on one of Wacken's Yearly DVDs...:)

The best thing about those festivals is the chance of getting live broadcast or at least some pro-shot footage. Generally arenas are better deals, but I have to say that I have no bad memories from seeing them at Sonisphere in Warsaw (I have to add, though, that it was a rather small festival compared to Wacken, which must be awful for experiencing Maiden).

When did happen like that before?
Donington 88 was billed as the only UK gig. Then followed a tour..... Fear of the Dark at Donington - tour announced after the gig..... More recently, Maiden England, Donington- sold out as the only announced gig, only to be followed by 2 indoor gigs at the O2 London. Off the top of my head.... there could be more examples.

The first two examples are more than twenty years ago & ME (2012-14) wasn't/isn't an album tour. I hope you're right & there are UK arena dates late-2016. Can't see Maiden going on the road continuously (i.e. for most of 2016 without a break) for that long though. Not saying there will be no UK arena tour, just think it's possible, or even likely, that it'll be kicked into 2017.

OK, The Final Frontier tour. Knebworth (festival) nearly 12 months later- arena tour of the UK. Call me optimistic.... Agree about 2017. Big summer gig 2016 and a tour finale in the UK in 2017 would fit.

I could see something sneaky being announced like another O2 show or two, yes.
Oh, it's a given that if there is a single UK festival date, there may also be a couple of London (& O2 in all likelihood, as you suggest) dates. That's not a UK arena tour though. They always tour the UK on an album tour. It's just a case of when.

Yip, that's what I said earlier. So 2017 then? :p

edited my post before reading this... Agreed.

I was there too. Couldn't see a thing, just the big screens. Impossible to get anywhere near the stage. I would have been disappointed if I hadn't already seen that tour like 6 times...

About the crowd: it was scary because this was such a huge moving sea of people (ten thousands!), by far the biggest gig I've ever witnessed, and sometimes it really felt as if there was not enough space. Me and my wife were standing near to that lighting/sound tower, sporting a Beck's banner (you'll see it several times during this vid, e.g. @0.08 already. A couple of times we were pushed against fences near that tower, and it took a while before we managed to have a safer spot. My wife was also pregnant (in a very early stage though!) so that made us be a little extra afraid. Before the gig started we lost Per and Nush, but they probably were closer to the stage! All was OK before Rime started. The first time I ever witnessed this magnificent song. The sound was outstanding, probably due to the central position where we were standing.
