The Future Past tour 2023

I find it interesting that a lot casual "fans" attending Maiden shows this year, don't recognise much of the Somewhere in Time material. They are instead of the impression that the main element of the set just consists of "newer" songs.

A person I spoke with complained about that they didn't play Wrathchild.
To be fair the band haven't helped matters but largely ignoring SiT for all these years

When Maiden started Stranger in a Strange Land in Ljubljana we were three persons who all thought it was Wrathchild at first. That's how bad the sound was. And that was next to the mixing desk.

When the guitars entered I didn't understand a thing because I had decided it was Wrathchild, so a different guitar riff made no sense and I believed the band just did a massive fuck up.

So it looks like there might be a proshot live stream from Hellfest for tomorrow on YouTube? At least there have been for the other bands so far. Does anyone know for sure?

I think the Maiden show is not going to be broadcast. At least the band’s name was not on a list of concerts that would be streamed that I saw a couple of days ago.

Some personal considerations regarding the footage I've seen for The Future Past Tour so far:
  • Cool and daring setlist. I still think it's kinda strange a Maiden show without TNOTB being played but despite loving the title track way more than The Prisoner the latter is somewhat of a deep cut and Maiden dropping songs they played a million times for rare stuff is always welcomed IMO (and there's also a lot of fans that love The Prisoner).
  • All antics, Eddies, backdrops, dual screen animations/ clips, pyrotechnics and lighting are on point but I'd love to see some sort of structure on the stage itself. It looks a bit too "square" for me.
  • To round things up the trio of 6 strings remain utterly fresh and Steve is still a beast... the man doesn't age a bit.
I think Prisoner would have been an often played classic if it was on a different album (POM, for example) because TNOTB is full of classics for the band. It has all the elements of essential classic Maiden song.

About the stage: I think they don't use a different structure mainly because of the backdrops and because Bruce sings from above the drums (especially since 2000). Last year he didn't sing from there with the SJ stage that had a slightly different and bigger shape.
Btw, the new stage has cool LED lights around it, which was really important:

I would change the backdrops of: Stranger (not sure), Days (with the one for Wasted Years), Time Machine, Heaven, Wasted Years (with this or with Days/Time Machine backdrop) and Iron Maiden. Not many backdrops with Eddie this time (especially in contrast to TBOS tour) - only 6/7.

All of band members are still great live. Nicko too, especially for his age. Agreed about Steve, Janick too. Adrian, Dave and especially Bruce are amazing.

I only pointed out The Prisoner because I personally never regarded it as a classic per se (not much of a fan it but hey... personal taste) and IMO there are only two POM songs I'd rank below it (I like Sun And Steel but IMO similar to The Prisoner it is merely a good song and the second one being obviously the only tune from the album I have gripe with: Quest For Fire). I simply love POM... utter masterpice and easily a top 5 all time Maiden album on my rank. TNOTB despite being an excellent album is somewhat below as far as I'm concerned. Still I must reinforce the idea that deep cuts are always welcome given that they meet a certain quality (which course that's always a subjective aspect). And despite not being one of my favorite deep cuts I still think The Prsisoner is a really cool song and once again it seems that there's lots of people who love it so IMO it was a great decision featuring it in the setlist.

The Prisoner seems to be going over great with the crowd, though. Great sing-along.

It could be he’s really fucking excited to be on a different tour for the first time in five years. He also looks considerably healthier.

This, and I believe part of his more chill-out vibe is the fact that the current show doesn't have those costume changes and other theatrics which kept him quite busy on LOTB tour. I loved those elements in that show, but it's also very refreshing to have this "less is more" approach for a change. :)

They choose the setlist not for us but for themselves, see News, Links and Interviews.
Well, yeah, but Alexander was definitely added because of the fans requests. SIT album too. If they don't feel comfortable, of course they won't play a certain song. I guess because of this approach they don't play Parchment. I think they also consider which songs will work great/best live.

Also, from this interview (hopefully we'll find the full version next week) - maybe we will get Only The Good Die Young on the next tour (I'm not surprised it wasn't included for the current tour; 2 songs never played live), despite this comment from Steve about it: ''It would be nice to play that, maybe. It’s a bit more, one of those obscure songs. But it’s just…what do you drop out?! That’s the problem. So many songs, so many albums''.

^ The current setlist is a perfect example of a fresh approach, so that's the formula, Steve! It will be a great live song imo.
