The Future Past tour 2023

I watched a video of the Leipzig gig (Leipgig?) for Caught Somewhere in Time, and it sounded a little like his feet were starting to pick up some of the bass drum rhythms again. Since it's all cell phone recordings, it's hard to tell if I'm just hearing what I want to hear, but it seemed to be present.
hes doing since the ljubjiana show but as the tour goes on, hes doing more times and the songs are getting more fluid every night.

I was listening to the Sheffield bootleg (the good one), Bruce was sick during these Sheffield shows yet he was MUCH better than today on SiT songs.

Well I think he delivered rather well in that show indeed. Caught Somewhere in Time has some really outrageous intensity which I like. However, I personally prefer his current delivery of those songs. Might be just a personal preference, since I really like the slightly more deep and dramatic edge that modern-day Bruce has in his voice. And I think Stranger in a Strange Land just "breathes" so much better now, but that's not just a vocals-centric thing.

Regardless, I think Bruce is doing incredibly well right now when it comes to his vocal performance.

I'll say it the way it is. I'm in a very dark and sad moment in my life right now, but all the people who care for me convinced me to go see Maiden in Leipzig, which I did together with @LooseCannon.
I don't give a fuck about what drumfills Nicko did or didn't play. I don't give a fuck about how the setlist relates to the played-live statistics of individual songs. I don't give a fuck about all those stupid complaints and precious little opinions everybody has. All I know is that last night, I saw my favourite band play the music I've loved for the better part of my life, once more helping me get through the trials of life, and if that isn't good enough, then nothing in life is.
‘All that people need is something in the universe that is real and that won’t let them down. And the Maiden fulfil that for people, I think that would be a remarkable thing’

These paraphrased words by Mr Dickinson have gotten me through tough times. I hope yours get better, Perun.

Leipzig is connected to my weirdest Maiden experience ever. In November 2003 I saw almost all the German gigs of the DOD tour, and the Leipzig Arena was 75%-80% empty. It was absolutely spooky. 1500 people at maximum infront of the stage in this massive arena - all empty. And for some reason the support act (Funeral For A Friend) got cancelled that night. So Maiden came out directly and played to that ghost hall without any support. That was kinda sick, really.

That's the spirit! Yet remember, when we're nitpicking, it's always in context. I couldn't go and see Maiden this year, even though I really wanted to, so I'm definitely going to complain about how they suck live! Alexander is overrated! :D

(on the other hand, I'm really glad you could go. Even if I had a ticket and could manage going, I would still give it to you. Glad you had a great time)

Kick patterns? I think those are gone for good. Nicko himself said that even in 2018, he was on the limit with The Wicker Man on the choruses.

I think the fills are a combination of things. I think the biggest ones might be pacing oneself and lack of confidence.

Btw, I read that, according to Charlie Charlesworth who spoke with some fans, the snare fills in CSIT were taken out, because the tempo wasn't consistent with them (=Charlie saying nicely that Nicko wasn't able to perform them as they were intended to be).
If I were to guess, I think the snare rolls in the pre-solo portion of CSIT were cut because it's one of those sections that is very easy to get sidetracked on like the end of the breakdown in Sign of the Cross or Alexander's instrumental breakdown. The speed of it makes it that much more easy to lose your place.

Exactly. And Nicko isn't a spring chicken anymore. Age isn't forgiving to anyone.

If the fans that spoke to Charlie are to believe, the attempts of playing those fills resulted in massive tempo volatility. And you can hear why on the other songs, where Nicko seems quite stiff during fills.

Still, simplifying drums and going for tempo was the right and the only possible call for CSIT to be performed IMO.

Every show I’ve heard from the original SIT tour, Bruce sounds like he has a cold and is singing through his nose.

I do think he sounds better today. He’s lost a small bit of the high end of his range, but his voice is so much fuller and rounder and filled with drama.

Wasn't that because he's completely blown his chords by the end of the Powerslave tour? (not that I'm surprised, 189 gigs in 331 days is absolutely insane for a singer and he definitely didn't have the coaching and the proper vocal care he has now)

That's correct. And, if nothing else changes, Senjutsu, Stratego, and The Writing on the Wall will be the only Maiden songs that were played live but not on the promotional tour for the album. Covid was consequential even for Maiden stats.

Are you sure about TWOTW?

Alexander instead of TWOTW.

Something I just realized: The Future Past Tour (I believe) is the first-ever Iron Maiden tour where the band debuted a song from a previous studio album on a tour not supporting its immediate release.
And to add more: It's the 2nd album (well, hybrid) tour after 1982 (''Murders In The Rue Morgue'') not to open with a song from the new album, and also the 6th album tour (after 1982, 1983, 1986, 1992, 1995, 2003) for which the second song on set is also not from the new album.

I wish I could agree with you but far from it. Having listened to about 120-130 bootlegs from that tour, apart from some nights here and there, it was really not Bruce's best tour in terms of singing. Maybe because he wasn't particularly happy with the album (here comes the story of how all of his ideas were rejected) or as far as I can remember, it was the first time he thought about leaving the band or he had any other problems but as much as I love the album and love to listen to bootlegs from that tour, the singing while not being bad (not possible with someone like Bruce, right?), I'd rather listen to the 2023 versions of CSIT I heard so far. Same goes for Wasted years and SiaSL.
