The Concert Thread

So I meet up with my friend at the train station yesterday. He already bought the train tickets for the "clean train" (one of the faster, new trains that are still clean :P) and while we're walking around the station trying to find it (and it's leaving in 15ish minutes) he jokingly asks me "Did you bring the festival ticket?".
...
So I had to go back home to get it and we missed the clean train and had to swap tickets for the piss train (the older disgusting train that smells like piss). Luckily we had a lot of time and didn't have to miss anything.

Sear Bliss played for about 45 minutes. I listened to a couple of their albums but they didn't play any songs I knew, but they were very cool. They had perfect sound although it took some time for me to distinguish the trombone in the wall of sound. Trombone adds a really epic dimension to their sound, dunno how no other band thought of using it :D They should record a live album, 'cause their older songs sound way better live.

Paradise Lost was also amazing. They are a weird band in that their setlist consisted of such different songs that you'd think they are 3 different bands. Pretty awesome setlist though. Forostar would probably disapprove of the fact that they used recorded backing vocals on some songs, but I guess they have to since no one other than Nick can sing :P Highlights of the show: they start playing Dead Emotion and Nick says "c'mon, get a mosh pit going, pretend we're Machine Head or something" and addition of Say Just Words which they only played for the 3rd time this year; I expected Beneath Broken Earth so this was an awesome surprise.

At The Gates and Prodigy tonight!

Sounds good. Last time I saw Paradise Lost they played music from throughout their career, and like you say, it's really quite varied.

Nice Night Prowler. I am surprised you don't know Sear Bliss' debut album, but great that you enjoyed the gig nonetheless. I hope to see them soon. Over the last years I always missed them, but now I have followed their facebook page.

We came too late to the train station (this time I didn't forget the ticket) so we had to stand in the train for like 2h since all seats were taken <_<

Skipped Toxic Holocaust to watch football (Portugal, Ronaldo and EURO's and Gignac can all fuck off. And Deschamps too.).

At The Gates was a bit late since the people in charge of the stage were super incompetent at setting up sound. Sound was dodgy as fuck the whole time, I was in the first row on the left and couldn't hear the solos from the guitarist on the right. There was a lot of fuzzing and screeching throughout and they also had a 5 minute break trying to find a microphone that works <_<

At The Gates as a band kicked ass though. It was a pretty much non-stop headbang-fest for me, think I'll have a sore neck for quite a while. Setlist was perfect IMO, I only really like two of their albums and apart from one older song, they only played songs from those two :D As I said, I was in the first row so didn't have to deal with moshpits and the view was perfect. Guitarist's pick hit me in the chest and guy behind me found it before me :(

Here's how the venue looked like:

So afterwards we went to see Prodigy. Note: Prodigy is probably most popular foreign band in Serbia. I dunno how popular they are abroad, but here their concerts are almost always packed to bursting, especially at this festival where they played multiple times. We got there at the beginning of the first song and managed to get like 150m within the stage. Atmosphere was really unbearable, everyone was either trying to get closer to the stage or jumping up and down so we gave up after like 5 songs and listened to the concert from afar. Not really a fan but they have some OK songs. I actually think some of their more darker upbeat stuff could translate well into metal arrangements.

Didn't see anything else, sat in a bar drinking beer for a couple of hours passing the time until the train home.

I remember in the mid 90s, some critic described The Prodigy as dance music for people who don't like dance music. They gained a following from fans of alternative rock and indie.

I forgot to mention one thing. EXIT Festival has a terrifyingly bad crowd control. It's held on an old fortress and has a lot of smaller stages that are connected by narrow tunnels and passageways. Main Stage area can probably fit in about 40 thousand people and during the Prodigy concert it was packed to bursting. At one point I had a thought that if something dangerous happened, like someone firing a gun (though almost impossible to happen due to security on the entrance) or a fire/explosion going off, it'd cause a stampedo that'd kill hundreds of people. I know it can happen at pretty much any bigger show, but the fortress setting is 100x worse than say, an open field. Also just read that at Dance Arena (2nd most popular stage) there was also a dangerous moment where they had to stop the music and everything to get people to calm down.

Anyone here ever seen The Who live? I might be able to go to Vienna in September to go see them, might be my last chance since they are pretty old and rarely come close to Serbia. Just celebrated 50th anniversary of the band recently I think.

Any fan of rock music should see The Who in concert. I haven't seen them, but you totally should! If I had the opportunity I would definitely go.

An update for me...
I'm still deciding on Anthrax

I'm going to get tickets for Brett Michaels with Warrant, Great White, La Guns, Dokken and Ratt. Though I don't wanna see Brett Michaels, I would only go for Ratt and Dokken. :D

Amon Amarth have announced Manchester at the end of October. It's a tricky one because it's a Monday night and I don't know where I'll be living or working.

Went to a free festival this weekend called Beer & Flowers here in Slovenia. It was the third time I went. Saw Joe Satriani and Phil X & The Drills. They were both amazing. Satch's band (Minneman, Beller and Keneally) are incredible. If you are a fan of guitar you can't miss this band.

Tomorrow I will be procuring tickets to Temple of the Dog at the Paramount Theater in Seattle on November 20th.

I don't know them that well, but my friend who I'm going with says this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some of the godfathers of grunge. I'm already excited.

Wow, that's amazing! I would absolutely love to see Temple of the Dog live. They only have one album anyway, so you can hear it before that. It's awesome.
And yes, it definitely is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Maybe not on that. Ticketmaster claimed it was 94$ for ga tickets but on that site there's nothing left. On stubhub there's a ton of tickets but they're all 300$ and no GA! I'll just have to wait. I really want to go though!

I just bought my ticket for Amon Amarth/Testament in London at the start of November. I had to buy it from the venue's website as it had sold out elsewhere!

I'm not sure if I'm going to buy Manchester Amon Amarth tickets. I don't know where I'll be living by then.

Went to Megadeth concert yesterday. Megadeth by the numbers, but a decent mix between the (very) good Dystopia and classics. Poisonous Shadows were a high point, and it was the best execution of Sweating Bullets I saw. I recommend if they're in your town
