The Concert Thread

I'm seeing them on Saturday. The setlist is nice, shame they dropped Rattlehead.

I notice on setlist.fm they're playing a shorter set on regular days and including Mechanix/Rattlehead on weekend concerts. So, it's likely they'll play one of those two there, like they did in São Paulo

I went to Megadeth yesterday and the sound was really bad. But it wasn't the band's fault, they just chose the worst venue here, guitars were low and Mustaine's voice could barely be heard at some songs. But the solo in Tornado of Souls made me forget these things. Overall it was a good show and it's always an amazing feeling to listen live for the first time the songs you only listened to on CDs.

Awesome @Naty !! Well, except for the not so awesome sound.

I'm going to Music Midtown in September (it's a music festival in Atlanta, GA), so that should be really fun. Chvrches is playing there (main reason I'm going), but overall the lineup is solid. Seeing Taylor Swift in October in Austin, TX, again should be a good time.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to see Iron Maiden and Manilla Road sometime next year.

...and Mustaine's voice could barely be heard at some songs.
And this was bad, why? :p
Glad you had a great time, Naty! I've seen Megadeth like 14 times and I think I've only heard Tornado like once or twice. You got lucky!
I must be lucky too, as I've only seen them twice, & I'm pretty sure I saw/heard ToS both times. First time was Marti back in mid-90's, second time was with Broderick on lead in ~2008 or thereabouts. I'm sure I must have wet myself on one of those occasions...

Went to Cattle Decapitation concert. Opener was BegUsToStop, a Serbian grindcore band. Don't like the genre but they were OK. Vocalist was quite powerful.

Cattle Decapitation was short but sweet. Setlist had the right songs but the order wasn't good: they played my 2nd favorite song 1st and my favorite song 3rd, so the ending was a bit underwhelming. Their vocalist Travis Ryan is insane. Definitely the most powerful harsh vocalist I've ever heard live. He can do all kinds of harsh vocals, from deep brutal death metal grunts to regular growls to black metal shrieking and his specialty which is something I'd describe as growl-falsetto which sounds incredible live. Example (00:53):
(Also their best song IMO)

They only played for an hour though. Ticket was about $9 so I think I got my money's worth.

My girlfriend just bought me 2 tickets for Cavalera Brothers "Return to Roots" tour in November! ROOOOOOTS!!!!! BLOOODY ROOOOOOTS!!!!!!

Went to a show last night .. got a $10 presale GA ticket for

Scorpion Child ... I like their two albums, they were good live .. the singer really belted the songs out, the band sounded good, they moved around a lot for the small stage they were on .. but something seemed a little lacking. I did not dislike their show by any means, it just did not grab me

Simo ... I had heard from a few people he is a great guitar player ... but holy crap, he was just fricking awesome as was the bass player and drummer. Incredibly good musicians. During parts of the show, it seemed like he was playing a million notes a minute, but still kept is sounding very musical and keeping meaning in all the notes with a bluesy kind of soul. They guy is a damn good singer as well, they closed with a cover of With a Little Help From My Friends that was unbelievably good. I was just floored how good these guys were, I bought their new album after their set .. Mr. Simo was kind enough to sign it, chatted with him for a few minutes, seems like a nice guy on top of it. Hope they come around again soon ... must see act IMO. Run, do not walk if you see him playing anywhere near you.

Ace Frehley. I first saw Ace with Kiss in the late 70s ... He was always my favorite guy in the band. They play at ear bleeding noise levels, but still sounds pretty clean. I thought he put on a good show, one of the better ones I have seen from him . Dropping all the booze and drugs has been good for his playing and singing, he was sloppy as hell during his 80s/90s solo tours. Fun show, good mix of Kiss tunes and his solo stuff.

Tornado of Souls was the biggest surprise I had. If anyone doubted Kiko as a Megadeth giutarrist, Tornado made them shut up. They choose a random venue here as well (last year, only Robert Plant played there, as rock bands), the sound was bad on Mustaine rants all the way from the end of the concert, but his singing was clear.

I went to see Thrice in London last night. They're a post-hardcore band (I still don't know what post-hardcore means...) from California who I've been listening to for, I think, thirteen years now. The show was really good with a good mix of songs from their career. The last time I saw them was six years ago in Glasgow so it's been a massive benefit to me living in the south of England in terms of getting to see bands as a lot of them usually only play London. Thrice were already here for Reading & Leeds festivals and added the London show in too.

Thrice were thrice here then?

I used to really love them back in high school, but I think the second and third albums were their peak. Once they got all mopey they lost my interest a bit, even though I think they probably got more unique and improved as songwriters.

Any fan of rock music should see The Who in concert. I haven't seen them, but you totally should! If I had the opportunity I would definitely go.

An update for me...
I'm still deciding on Anthrax

I'm going to get tickets for Brett Michaels with Warrant, Great White, La Guns, Dokken and Ratt. Though I don't wanna see Brett Michaels, I would only go for Ratt and Dokken. :D
Dokken - band is killer but Don is WAY overdue for retirement. Talks through the songs. Cant sing anymore.

Ratt - see notes on Dokken

I find it quite odd that Katatonia are billed highly at festivals like this. They're a long established name with dedicated fan following, but they're not exactly epic or particularly metal either these days. More mellow and melancholic in an Anathema sort of way. They must pull out some of their louder and more energetic stuff for festivals, because otherwise it'll be a bizarrely soft and quiet interlude.
