@Gk1 I think your best hope for a short, uptempo tune on TBOS is probably "Death or Glory".

But I think that by now it is established that H can't write a really fast song in Maiden. This is however funny as he did this amazing fast song in Primal rock rebellion....how was it called?!No place like home, right?

5:50 as far as modern maiden goes is a pretty short song. It's 1:30 shorter than revelations. What defines a rocker for you? For me, it's distortioned guitars all the way through. The song has to be fast. And there can still be an instrumental section in the middle for it to be a rocker.
I think Maiden still make solid rockers. Sure their albums seem dominated by proggy songs but you still get stuff like El Dorado, The Alchemist, Montsegur, all great songs. Sure they're longer still, but does length really matter?
And after the slow intro, The Talisman because one hell of a rocker! It's just not short.

Just heard this for the first time this morning. Have listened like 20 times. First off, have we been told or assuming this is from Speed of Light? First impression is it's a nice lick. Sounds like end of a solo and a little melody bridging the solo and chorus???
Without going back over the pages, is this what we think?

Yes that seems to be the general assumption. Everything you've said. No confirmation that it's Speed of Light but I doubt they'd sample anything besides an upcoming single.

And after the slow intro, The Talisman because one hell of a rocker! It's just not short.
Yea I wanted to mention that too. The riffs on that are crushing and Bruce is belting it out like it's 1985.

Kevin is indeed a great producer.I love all his recent work apart from Maiden. In Maiden he is just following orders and for that matter is after a live sound...live is just sloppiness as far as I am concerned.
Actually, Kevin was the one who suggested that BNW (and subsequent albums) be recorded "live" in studio, instead of the regular track-by-track way.

Having listened to those 27 seconds over twenty times now, I'm:

  1. Excited about the production.
  2. Cringe a little, because that guitar melody sounds like it's coming right out of a late 90's car racing video game. It just seems cheesy to me.
But that's only 27 seconds out of 92 minutes, and I'm all the more excited for having heard it.

The melody there on the 28: snipet, to me sounds similar to the main vocal patern in futureal. Anyone hearing this?
The guitar is sounding clear as hell and calls to mind Pom a bit. But seriously, since I quit the 20 listens, I have futureal in my head!!

Yes, me and Maturin also thought this (and my wife too, independently from me). The last parts from every Futureal verse does not match but most of it does indeed.
