I disagree. This sample has loud lead guitar quality. I find it a bit too loud. It sounds on top and less fluently within the music as in Somewhere in Time, an album with a more integrated sound, in which we also hear a fair amount of bass.
It's not exact to SIT (definitely not as drenched in reverb), but the guitar tone reminds me of that album, except mixed more in the vein of BNW. I personally like that mix, because those are two of my favorite albums production-wise. Then again, it's only 27 seconds, so we won't really know for sure until we hear at least one song in its entirety.

Yeah, I'm really trying (and failing) to not get my hopes up too much, because I really don't want a production like the ones we've been getting since DoD. It worked for AMOLAD, but it still wasn't necessarily the sound I'd have gone for with that album.

Guys,I understand we are all excited but getting the SIT sound nowadays is impossible. As I said before it seems that this is just the solo and the ending bit to it....as H did in the wickerman. If I heard the same extract fom The wickerman I would have said that BNW was the best Maiden album ever and so on.So it is a damn good lick but we can't really say much a out the prodiction itself as it seems the sample - as all samples- has really boosted high frequencies, that might not be so on the record...and Prometheus...Kevin did not get the soud right in 10 years, what are the chances he did it now?!?

Because Kevin's actually a pretty good producer; it's just that he's also easily swayed by Steve. Kevin nailed the production with Brave New World, regardless of what you might think of the actual songwriting itself, and his work on Journey's Trial by Fire and more recent Eclipse albums show that he's very capable of putting out a great sounding record.

It's just that Steve's been after that "live" sound. If his opinion was swayed by someone like Bruce, Adrian or Kevin, then we're far more likely to get a great sounding record. Seeing as how they already changed the songwriting approach to this album pretty notably from previous post-reunion albums, with Steve relinquishing some of his control/input on the songwriting, I think it's possible he was also willing to give a different production style a shot.

Kevin is indeed a great producer.I love all his recent work apart from Maiden. In Maiden he is just following orders and for that matter is after a live sound...live is just sloppiness as far as I am concerned.

Exactly, so really the ball would be in Steve's court. Up until yesterday, I had been expecting the album to have the same old production that we've been getting for the past decade and had just been hoping that it'd at least sound good and dynamic (a la AMOLAD). After hearing the sample, I'm hoping we are indeed getting something a bit more professional sounding like SiT and BNW, which upon reflection may be possible since the band already shook things up in the songwriting stage of this album. Moreover, the band was apparently taking a lot of time in post-production over the past year, while Bruce was going through chemotherapy.

I actually agree and would personally prefer a more sophisticated production quality from Maiden. However, I also respect the band's preference to record the music in their own way. As long as the songs are good, that's all I really care about in the end, and they haven't disappointed me with any of their recent outputs.

Having listened to the sample, I really like it. You can tell by the guitar playing and the melody, and especially the title of the video that this is 28 seconds of Iron Maiden playing guitars and drums. Whenever I think of how Maiden plays guitar and drums, I'm now reminded of this little clip. It's quite something! You can clearly hear the Kevin Shirley production as well as the studio they used, because they previously used this studio for Brave New World, and that album also had guitars and drums.

on the other hand the style or feel of each track could be varied with different aspects to each track. as reguards to it being reminiscent of said classics well that would be a nice touch

I dont see the SSOASS or SIT resemblance.... it sounds like the last 4 albums, what i feel its a bit of DOD,i hope the album dont go that direction.Ill said it again i hope its not the fast opener song, because since wicker man the openers are way to light.Wildest dreams,Different world, the final frontier......the alchemist......where is the speed, the anger, the epic chorus?

Well, after a good number of listens to the sample, here are my thoughts. I did have to warm up to it a bit because it sounds nothing like I've ever heard Maiden do before. I do dig it quite a bit. I kind of don't like the toned down feel it has though. Maiden's lead harmonic parts usually have more of a powerful feel to them and this has just a little bit of weakness to it. It's still a very enjoyable piece and like I said, it has a very original feel to it and is unlike anything I've ever heard Maiden do before. Too bad we didn't get any vocal parts, but it's still nice to get a little something. I can't wait for more!

im copying this "I kind of don't like the toned down feel it has though" because my english is not that good, but its exactly what i feel from DOD and TFF.....i couldnt express in english but thats it.That kind of sound.

The cheesier the single, the better the rest of the songs are.

Regarding the new album,it never really was about being drastically different to the last 4 albums. They can't deviate that much from the sound they created with Shirley. It is more on whether they can move the formula in the right direction....whatever that might be.

DOD has probably the best short rocker of the post reunion era. Montsegur. And that track kills! BNW also has The Fallen Angel. Not as good as montsegur, still a good rocker. El Dorado was a Alright. But Speed of light seems so far, real promising to be the next good rocker since The Wickerman. Maybe possibly since Powerslave.
