Yes that beginning of the clip reminds me a bit of stuff he does at the end of his Wildest Dreams solo (before the slow part starts).

Listened to the sample. 27 seconds in you can hear where the finger picking on the fret is melodious enough to be Adrian, but effervescent enough to be Dave. The hammer-on action is spotted with the Wah, so it gets a bit of the Mesa Boogie sound. I also like how every third note is arpeggiated to the tempo of the hi-hat-snare drum that is richly played by backwards handed Nicko McBrain.

That solo ends very cool (the very last notes). I think I can already hear some new equipment that they've been raving about in the fanzine. The sound is different.

What do you guys (and girls e.g. @Sara ) think of the messy (sorry but I find it a crappy!) sounding note/hit @ 0.23??

Man, I know they wanted a live sound, but I don't think I ever heard such a guitar mistake on a Maiden studio album.

You are right. Weird, the last time I remember of a fault like this is on Xfactor, The Aftermath, the drummer miss a hit just after the " I am just a soldier " when the tempo changes.

I actually didn't listen to the sample yet and just made a bunch of stuff up that sounded like I understand music on a technical level. But the backwards drum stick thing is true. Probably the only true thing I wrote
Yeah... "hi-hat-snare drum" doesn't really make sense... ;)

Well, after a good number of listens to the sample, here are my thoughts. I did have to warm up to it a bit because it sounds nothing like I've ever heard Maiden do before. I do dig it quite a bit. I kind of don't like the toned down feel it has though. Maiden's lead harmonic parts usually have more of a powerful feel to them and this has just a little bit of weakness to it. It's still a very enjoyable piece and like I said, it has a very original feel to it and is unlike anything I've ever heard Maiden do before. Too bad we didn't get any vocal parts, but it's still nice to get a little something. I can't wait for more!

I'm surprised that you haven't made any comments on the production similarities between this and SiT/SSoaSS/BNW. The sound is really reminiscent of those albums, even if it's not an exact match. As for the note, it sounds fine to me. Honestly, if that's what they mean by a live sound and not in reference to the actual production of the album, I'll take the occasional imperfect note or two for this sweet sounding production.

The lead IMO sounds completely Janick. If Adrian was playing this, you would hear his signature vibrato in it. Which you don't hear. Janick plays with a lot of attack on the strings. Such as playing with the pick sideways so he gets more of a pinched harmonic sound. And I think it goes well with the tone so it blends, but you can still hear it.

It's not that terrible indeed, but to me the most striking mistake/noise/whatever we want to call it, made by Maiden guitar on a studio album (not talking about solos, just melody lines).
