Short-answer questions

Please enlighten me (I don't remember) why band's official forum was closed. I was there, fun times. Band and Rod could not handle criticism?

Well it wasn't exactly closed, it was made as part of the payed benefit of being part of the official FC. Having said that, I remember that not only criticism galore but also lots of porn xD

Hold up…..what?!!! Is this true? They could’ve used a movie prop and instead it’s a real sheep brain? And wtf would they eat it?

People eat brains almost everywhere. I once had a French friend tell me she knew the picture in the POM sleeve was supposed to be silly, but it doesn't look at all odd to a a French person. You and I are from some of the very few countries in which it's not commonplace to eat brain.

Yea, I think my bewilderment was less that they ate a brain, and more that I was picturing them (the band) at a photo shoot and then eating the "props" which were real food. It paints a weird picture in my head and I'm not sure why.

Speaking of french people. Jersey is very much influenced by France so that also makes more understandable that the sheep's brain was available in the market (yet according to the Maiden crew, not curry or beans)

I think Peace Of Mind was the original title of Still Life and Piece Of Mind was a word play on that.

I don't think it was, I think it was the other way round, the lyric "will give me piece of mind" was a last minute addition after the album title was made.

I think srfc was meaning to say "peace" -a native speaker's mistake.
Yeah, but I mean it's very important, since "piece" doesn't make sense in the lyrics, but "peace" does.

Also, considering the thematic of the song, I think "Food for thought" title was derived from it and not vice versa.

Yep was a typo from me, I know what the lyric is, I'm just used to typing "piece" in a Maiden context.

My source of the lyric being added last minute, as a change to a different lyric that had been there to reference the album tite, was Bruce said it somewhere that I read. I can't remember where and what era that Bruce made the statement, but it wasn't too long ago that I read it.

I've been wondering about this for a while: I have the impression that the band's live output changed dramatically from The Book of Souls World Tour onwards. Flight 666 and En Vivo are the pinnacles of their live production. Suddenly, the band sounds totally different since The Book of Souls - Live Chapter. Things seemed to get worse with Nights of the Dead. To my ears, the major difference is - but not limited to - how Nicko sounds. Question one: does this change also bother you? Question two: does this have anything to do with Nicko changing his gear from Premier to Sonor? My comparison is only between live productions and not the actual live sound, so the third question is: for those who attended shows before and after this breakpoint I mentioned, did they sound this different?

I think the difference is Shirleys lack of involvement in the live albums after En Vivo and little or nothing to do with Nickos gear.

I reckon this is due to the diminishing financial return from live albums. They dont want to pay Shirley to do it. They get less out so they put less in, hence the noticeable dip in audio quality.

In terms of live, in the flesh, I think they sound better than ever. I don't have fantastic recall of things like live gigs but I've seen Maiden on most tours since 95 and I remember being impressed on TBOS and Legacy tours (5 gigs in total). They sound clearer and Nicko sounds fantastic, he is the biggest noticeable change for me.

Personally, I think this is down to Pooch joining the crew and again, little to do with Nickos change from Premier to Sonor.

So, for me, the band sounds better than ever on the last 2 tours while the last 2 live albums are their worst sounding and neither thing is related to Nickos kit.

Yeah. The live sound improvement since 2018 is 98% Pooch.

I was sceptical how the BDC drums would sound compared to Sonors... But it's still amazing. So, it's Pooch.

I think the Churchill's Speech intro sounded weird and something was off and the crowd roaring bit from the Revelations were really badly done on Nights Of The Dead, Legacy Of The Beast. I mean break point for example when the song starts and crowd yells.

Its as if they gave Tony Newtown a really short deadline, like "you have 1 week and whatever you have is gettin released." Ots quite inconsistent, if I remember correctly.

I also remember enjoying it more after a few listens. I didn't mind the weirdness. Or maybe I was just resigned to the fact that such a spectacular show was marked so unspectacularly.

My thoughts exactly. I am still baffled by their choice of a set of gigs from 2019 instead of 2018 ones, when Bruce’s voice was in particular fine form.

This definitely. Those people that didn't get to witness 2018 shows might accidently think Bruce sounded the like on the live-album or the RiR 2019.
Atleast the people, the minority luckily that claim how badly Bruce has lost his voice etc nonsense always mention these things.
Im so bored, when they don't even know the real state (and won't bother to check) and how wonderful Bruce has sounded in the last few years or so..the Jon Lord-shows especially.
