Run For Your Lives World Tour 2026 Rumours and Speculation

Maiden and Metallica are definitely neck and neck in ticket sales, Maiden sold more tickets than Metallica last year alone. SOAD will always sell out in seconds since they rarely play shows
Maybe not quite, but Maiden has closed the ticket sale gap with Metallica really well, I guess in most places except USA. Some markets Maiden may be neck and neck or even better.

Total turnaround from the late 90s when Metallica towered over Maiden’s ticket sales.

I dont see any market where Maiden is selling more tickets. Metallica is doing mostly stadium and open air shows last few years.

OK, but Iron Maiden are playing more concerts (generally), and you must realize Metallica doubled the shows with 80% the same people in the audience both nights! This could be called a monopolization strategy in the concert markets (money-grabbing anyway). The final results are fewer shows, more big venues, and more people, just because of their strategy to sell two shows at the same stadium(s) to the same people and even give them "free CDs".

Metallica is a WAY bigger band. They book stadiums as their standard shows, while Maiden only dares to book a few stadiums per tour. Also, Metallica’s stage is built for stadiums, while Maiden’s stage set is also used in indoor arenas. Hello?

You are not implying that Iron Maiden are a charity as opposed to the Metallica money-grabbers, are you?

Metallica play bigger venues that Maiden in a lot of places because they are a bigger band, full stop. For example, if Maiden could sell out 4 shows at the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico they would be playing 4 shows there instead of just one.

What`s the obsession on here with who`s the bigger band and who sells more tickets, it`s pretty pointless stuff.
What’s the point of countless setlists? Lists of favorite bands and their albums? Who’s bigger (on a monetary scale) is just another list — that’s how I see it.
  1. Metallica
  2. Iron Maiden (money-wise)

    etc.
That’s all. No one is implying that Metallica is better than Maiden, but they are bigger in the crowd attendance category.

Exactly. Maiden do what they do and are really successful at doing that. But to think they are as big as Metallica is pure FANtasy.
They didn't do like Metallica - mainstream stuff for casual radio-friendly listeners and a commercial (musical) approach. Maiden is Maiden, they have always been on their own way. If Metallica didn't do something like Black Album, Load, Reload, and more full of ballads and radio-friendly rockers they would never have been as big as they are. Generally, I'm not a fan of "metal for everyone", I'm old school and just appreciate this kind of approach.

Dream on, brothers, while you can (that Iron Maiden is bigger than Metallica)
Dream on, sisters, I hope you find the one (a man who thinks Iron Maiden is bigger than Metallica)
Spend your days full of emptiness
Spend your years full of loneliness
Wasting love, in a desperate caress

Having a song with Tom Cruise in the video helped them appeal to the masses watching MTV and now stranger things is a massive boost to every casual fan knowing who they are .

I like Metallica but who`s bigger and sells more tickets is just not my bag.

Among the casual listeners who repurchased them in the days of some ballads and hits for radio-friendly mainstream society. They are a trendy metal band for people who really don't like metal. Maybe "Fear of the Dark" album is not so heavy-sounding but way more metallic and sharper in my ears, but remember - it's definitely not the best Maiden album, just compare Metallica efforts from '90s to the other releases from an era from classic metal bands: Judas Priest, Pantera, Slayer even a few Megadeth albums - Metallica started to sound and look as pop band for "everyone". And finally - this thread is not about Metallica's career as I recon... End of the topic!

Who is Tom Cruise next to Graham Chapman?? What is Stranger Things next to a Lucozade advert featuring Daley Thompson?? Whatever Metallica do, Maiden do it better. :edmetal:

Iron maiden is a fundamentally uncool band deep in it's core. It's not really designed to be easy to get or be accessible. They're very take it or leave it.

Metallica are all about accessible cool and have been for a very long time. It's an image for tough guys slinging whiskey and smoking giant cigars compared to 6 quaint Morris Dancers singing convoluted historical epics.

That anyone should wonder why Metallica are a much bigger band is a mystery.

In fact, Maiden have made awkward and uncool a part of their brand at this point, sometimes labouring it to death.

Bruce is a walking Daily Mail "letters to the editor" and Steve is about as stubbornly awkward as it gets when it comes to maiden's presentation (album covers, video editing, album production).

But while maiden looked inwards, stayed true to themselves as they like to say, probably costing themselves millions in the process, Metallica have chosen cool and accessible.

Nothing wrong with that either, they've done alright for themselves. Quite a few times I wish maiden had been more open to moving with the times.

Having said all that, musically it's an easy choice for me - Metallica bores me to death with their brand of radio friendly thrash. Maiden makes me happy. I won't lose sleep over who sells more tickets, the fact Maiden could probably shift an enormous number of tickets touring only their later and less commercial stuff is frankly amazing. That's something to be very proud of.
