Random thoughts

Fighting over such petty differences as place of birth and difference of opinion is one of the reasons there is a Marine Corps!  :P

Tell me about it, those kinds of hostilities and prejudices are supposed to be drilled out of (or beat out of) Marines in boot camp.

To be fair, this occurred a lot prior to the Long War, since then, most of this has been shelved.

Given two inherent fundamental human traits - the compulsion for the discovery of life outside of our home planet, and the drive to continually modify every environment we come in contact with; I submit that very soon after the initial elation of the discovery of extra-terrestrial life has run its course, the human race, with or without intention, will do everything in its power to destroy it.

I read a very good poem about that once.  I think it depends on our ability to make peace with our own environment when we make that "first contact" with another species.

Like George Carlin's said, though...I think for now our species is going to be passed over by any other forms of intelligent life.

How's that saying:  "The proof that there is intelligent life in the universe is that they haven't contacted us."

That sounds like someone is in a pessimistic mood?

No, not pessimistic Foro, just realistic. One of the reasons I created this thread; I have deep thoughts like this sometimes and needed a place to put them. I figured everyone might suffer from the same thing.  :)

It's not like I'm in favor of animal cruelty or anything, but if the following story is true, then the folks at PETA are f'ing crazy:

WATERBURY, Vt. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman.

"PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says.

PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health.

I don't even know where to begin addressing the idiocy of that.  Tho, I can believe PETA would do that--they are loons.

It seems PETA is a place for everyone who hates mankind.  They hold animals in higher regard than humans.

I heard a story once about PETA contacting Judas Priest and asking them to change their album title to Hell Bent for Pleather.

I can imagine that live... Hell bent, hell bent for PLEATHER!

I have a friend who while not PETA extreme, is an activist for animal rights. She has a bumper sticker that reads, "Animals are little people in fur coats." That cracked me up! I could see a squirrel going up to another squirrel and asking, "Hey! Is that real fur!?" HAHAHAHA

Then the snakes must be really really bad shoppers. They bought fur coats with no fur. I wonder if the shopkeeper at the fur-coat store was able to control his laughter as he swindled them.

The Kinks:

Squirrel, you really got me now, you got me so I don't know what I'm doing.........

Fleas, don't ever set me free, I always wanna be by your side.......

Motley Crue:

What I need to get me tight.... SQUIRRELS, SQUIRRELS, SQUIRRELS!

Tarantulas have hairs all over their bodies called urticating hairs that they can shoot out at prey (or predators) that cause irritation to the victim or can even kill smaller animals.

I didn't know that until last night.

don't forget that I will travel often from now on in Africa and East Asia  -_-

Well you're still OK tarantula-wise, old world taratulas don't have urticating hairs, so you can't get shot by them. Maybe you should try catching one and eating it though.
